Bike Night was last night and I was going to take the H1 but was too lazy to move two cars to get it out. I then decided on the GPz but it ran like crap so I turned to 'ol faithful and took the 650. Had two beers and on the way home in the dark I suddenly remembered I never fixed the taillight. Sure enough, blue lights appeared and I got to have a discussion with the PoPo. Long story short he checked me for warrants and then followed me home to make sure no one ran into me . The cops out here are pretty chill. Now to redo that solder joint... again.

Not too far - just wanted to see if I'd managed to cure a couple of oil leaks and test out my new choke configuration. Good news on both fronts. Bad news was spotting a small amount of petrol on the carb tops (I'll investigate tomorrow) and my chain is definitely gooshed. I'l take it off and clean it and oil it just to confirm the prognosis but I've an new chainset on order regardless. (I'm not as mean, broke or stupid as I was at 17).

This is Branscombe, Devon in the UK. It's mildly famous for the 2007 abandonment of the MSC Napoli which foundered in a storm.

"The free-for-all began in the early hours yesterday when word got out that a crate of BMW motorbikes, worth £12,000 each, was among the 100 or so containers that had been washed ashore."

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2007/jan/23/pollution.uknews

Sadly, today there weren't any BMWs in evidence.

Devon, and more so Cornwall, has a reputation for piracy. There are tales of ships being lured onto the rocks by villagers who would plunder the ships for booty. Everyone I met to today was polite and showed no piratical tendencies.

The coast still bears a legacy of WW2 and there are pill boxes on the coastal path where people are hiking.

Everything cancelled and no events to attend so a buddy and I thought "We'll just take off for the weekend and see where we end up."
Prolly shoulda took the hint Friday afternoon...

...not that smart so away we went.
Things cleared up for most of the rest of Friday, got caught again late in the evening. Saturday started sunny and windy...onward. All good till late Saturday afternoon and my trusty steed pulled up lame in the front.

Not what you want to see at the only gas station for 20 miles in any direction

Nope! Five miles down the road had to hitch a ride to the next town and a motel for the night

Good to have friends willing to drive an hour and a half, on a Sunday, to bring spare parts. Little more thrashing in the parking lot, spare wheel installed and we're ready to head home
IMG_6284.jpg IMG_6285.jpg
Kinda diggin' the 16" wheel up front, might have to think about keepin' it or going back to the 21".
All in all good trip, got in some miles, nobody got hurt or arrested (always a plus) and everybody got home safe.

It looks cool, but fenderless is a bitch in the rain. If nothing had gone wrong, you wouldn't have much to write about. It's good it all ended well.

I took Pretty Pillion out yesterday on Yamato, (2006 Stratoliner) this is her first ride on the bike. And while I have no cool photos of our short (150ish miles) ride, we did use a tank full of gas and had some really good ice cream.

She likes the bike well though she does not like the foot pegs she has. She has grown to love the floor boards on my Rocket III. Looks like I have another little project to do.

This ride took us almost four hours. I took many of Virginia's smaller byways where speed limits are quite low and the pavement isn't wide enough for stripes. I ride so often to commute that I had forgot about just riding for the enjoyment of the outdoors.

We saw many horses, cows and sheep. While we didn't see the hogs, we sure were aware of their nearby presence.

The Myrtles are in full bloom right now and no matter their color, they are gorgeous. I do prefer the purple/red best.

Seeing fields of yellow flowers brightened our moods as well. We talked the whole time via Bluetooth inside our helmets, and most of that was about what we saw and smelled. We could not discern what the good smelling flowers were and really didn't even see them. Just knowing there is some sort of wonderful smelling flower out there made us happy.

All in all, it was a great afternoon in the country.

Today and tomorrow I'm working at a job site out of town. Of course the days I'm out here is when summer decides to be over! Had a nice 45 minute ride on the highway in strong wind and 11C temperature. Still, nice ride and it looks like it'll be hearing up for when it's time to head back home.

Meandering around Wickenburg Az,

Two successive nights of thunderstorms have finally broken our oppressive heat, time for a ride! I headed to Wickenburg. A fast blitz of four lane highway at a steady 65 mph and 35 miles later here I am! I came here today for some photos of the old train depot for Yamadudes contest, but while I’m here I’m just looking for anything that interests me.
On the edge of town, I see an interesting sight. A metal brontosaurus sculpture, high up on a hill.

I pulled in to investigate, it is a metal sculpture dealer that has some nearly life size sculptures that are amazingly well done. Check out this almost life size horse and wagon display.

The store wasn’t open yet or I would’ve looked around for a while.
Back on the road, I spotted something from the highway, way back in a small valley I could see the crumbling remains of an old stacked stone house and some other buildings, it was built in the style of some of the early pioneer homes, Jackpot! :geek: I turned around and went back to find the road leading to it, it was pretty sketchy! I went all the way back in there only to be confronted with half a dozen no trespassing and keep out signs. Damn!
Normally that wouldn’t deter your intrepid reporter, but I could see that some people were living back in there and Arizonans love their guns, so I reluctantly turned around, just when the buildings were starting to come into view too!

Walking around Frontier Street. Back when this was a one horse town, this street was it. These buildings go back to the beginning, late 1800’s. Across the street is the railroad station, down the street is historic Hotel Vernetta, built to serve railway travelers.

Back on my bike I swing through some of the first neighborhoods of Wickenburg, here is a nice example of an early turn of the century home, note how small it is with the pyramid metal roof.

Leaving town and heading for home. The weather was perfect today! :geek: It sure was nice to get out!

You know Mike - you are totally right on that.

In fact, we all live in interesting places, each with its own unique scenery, sites and infrastructure and yet, we are so busy whizzing through it that we seldom stop to take a photo and let others enjoy and learn something from where we live. Who gets to see castles - but Raymond, and the rest of us, deserts - but Bob, and the rest of us, or the pretty Pocono mountains of New York - but Jeff,...and the rest of us.

I am going to resolve to start taking and posting more pictures.

Pete
