You know Mike - you are totally right on that.

In fact, we all live in interesting places, each with its own unique scenery, sites and infrastructure and yet, we are so busy whizzing through it that we seldom stop to take a photo and let others enjoy and learn something from where we live. Who gets to see castles - but Raymond, and the rest of us, deserts but Bob - and the rest of us, or the pretty Pocono mountains of New York - but Jeff...and the rest of us.

I am going to resolve to start taking and posting more pictures.
I'm always taking pictures in my head but memories only last so long
Pete

Great pictures Bob
I was amazed by the buffalo sculpture
All the pieces cut and bent WOW
Note to self : Take the damn phone out of your pocket and click of a few

Thanks guys! Yeah cell phones really have made it too easy to take nice high quality photos. I remember the last 35 mm camera I had, even though it was digital and no longer required rolls of film, I didn’t like carrying it around so more often than not , it got left behind. But the cell phone? Always handy!

For the most part I think I live in an extremely uninteresting place, at least in terms of riding and scenery. I love the prairies but it's flat, straight, and there are only so many fields of canola you can see before they all look the same. But this year was my provinces 150th anniversary, so the local government was doing a bunch of stuff including putting out an app that was all about local history. It was landmarks and significant historical places that you drive out to, get the history of the place, snap a photo to get points. It came out in winter and I was super excited to ride around to all these spots. Then COVID hit and all the anniversary stuff got postponed until next year - including taking down the app. Bummer. Next year I hope to take in more of our local history and I'll definitely post some photos here when I do!

As for today, same ride as yesterday, but colder. 4C when I started the bike up this morning with a brisk wind. Not as bad as yesterday though - yesterday after work I actually had to get off the highway. The cross wind was so strong that despite leaning hard I kept getting pushed out of my land position and attempting to change lanes was incredibly difficult and a bit terrifying. Hoping the job site wraps up today before the rain hits.

Apparently we have a typhoon off of South Korea to thank for this... Something about jet stream amplification and cross-polar flow.

If all goes according to plan, I'm going to ride this weekend. Coldwater, MS to Waynesville, MO. My river crossing will be at Helena, AR. My desire is destination by Saturday evening. This will be my first ride in Missouri, so if you have something I must do and not far out of the way, PM it to me. I'm planning route 19 for a good stretch toward Rolla. I'm combining this with a visit to a close relative I have not seen in several years. I'm getting worked up. Eleven Special will be my steed.

These first 3 were taken at Brotts family motel in Joliet
The room was huge Quilts on the bed etc. All for under $100

I wish I knew how to stich all these together but bear with me

in Joliet (best buritto I've ever had! )
Great now 2 of the same picture LOL

Here's one of a gal named Sophia who we met prior to the summit
She had just got her bike like 3 weeks prior and since her friends couldn't make the trip went on her own
and then asked if she could tag along for awhile
We went as slow as 60+ year old guys so she didn't have trouble keeping up

I live in a veritable playground for a good handling bike, and 99% of the motorcycles I see are Harley baggers that appear to handle like trucks. My XS and my Honda CB650 (and heck, even my little Yamaha TW200) are way more fun on these roads.

When it comes to the really tight stuff, it's the rider more than the bike. The big HD just doesn't have ground clearance for the high speed stuff. Usually, they're slow because of the driver, and most often, they don't mind holding you up.

Not exactly a "riding" event, but I returned from the Outer Banks in North Carolina yesterday with a happy heart, and a new insight on what the future for me could be. I saw an ad for a plane tour of the OBX and thought $15 per person was unbeatable. I took my girlfriend and my sister in law for an hour drive just to fly for 12 minutes, and it was worth every second. We got to fly in a 1960's model cessna with a brand new flat 4 air cooled, carbureted constant speed single prop motor.

Much to my surprise, our pilot noticed me looking closely at the details of the plane, asking questions about the motor, and showing genuine interest in the engineering that went into the planes make up, and she offered to let me fly it!

I immediately accepted the offer, and when we took off, she gave me the controls and let me fly for the whole tour. It was truly an amazing experience and I think it may be something I consider investing in as a potential career.

IF THIS ISNT ALLOWED ON THE THREAD: Please pm me or delete the post. I just wanted to share a cool "ride" in a plane instead of a motorcycle!

Ya know.... that ain't the roughest looking 172 I ever seen... but it ranks up there.
Sounds like the bug bit ya.... go for it.
... and not to discourage ya, but there's an old axiom that says... if it flys, floats or f&cks, it's gonna cost a ton of money. ;)

Addendum to Jim's Axiom - "If it's got t!ts, tires or tracks..."

I had to postpone due concern for The Rona. I'll just take a vacation day and make it happen.
What I did was join an AMCA ride to Oxford on Saturday. Most were on Harleys and I didn't feel like inconveniencing electrons to get pictures. You've all seen them.

The 1970 Norton had a starter/generator modification in place of the magneto. It developed a no charge situation and went home on a trailer.
