What have you done to your XS today?

Today, I cranked up the SG to hear her run. Yesterday , I checked her plugs to see what
the jet changes and needle settings did and they were almost perfect! I'm leaving it alone for now.

I knew that, but It does look good! One of these days there will be a vote for Mr. Clean! :laugh2:

Edit: Oh my, then we'll have to have a vote for the Rat bike!

Hi all.
Put up my first post last week. This is a quick update.
Weather has been wet and windy here in UK this week so not been able to paint. Decided to get some indoor work done so tooled the belt that I made to hold the battery in the chop.
Then got some decent ish weather yesterday so managed to get frame and all the bits painted in primer.
Plan for today is flat back and get the Matt black on..... fingers crossed...........
Cheers, P.

404's ,If that's the K70 gold seals, I'm running them and I think Mailman is too. I like em'.
These are the Dunlop D404's. Thought I would try something different. I'll probably wait to put them on when my foot heals.
Although, the front should be done first. I have a wobble in the front end while slowing down with no hands. This usually happens when the front tire is worn. Or is could just be the early XS blues.

I've always had good luck with Dunlops. Maybe I'll try those when the time comes. Pirelli is my current go to.

They are on sale at Dennis Kirk. In the early 70's I remember buying tires for $25. Not anymore. And it seems that all companies are raising their prices. Get these while you can. If I like them, I may just buy another set and keep them till these wear out. With flat feet, I do that with shoes too!

Great. Can you post pics of plug colour?
Bosco659, I just rechecked the plugs and the left side is sooty. Rt side is darker too so they are not photo worthy. I spoke too soon. More fine tuning needed. Must have jinked myself from what I said yesterday.

Well, of course they are! That's what I put on the Honda! I knew those sounded familiar! I'm almost to the point of dangerous. Riding time; Gotta go! :bike:

Hey, marlin. I like them. I didn't think I would, but the Honda is heavier than the XS. Don't know if that makes a difference. The two bikes ride different so It's hard to judge. I have a grass strip to access the drive. 404's are slick in the wet grass. K70's bite better. I have had the 404's on the Honda about a year and 1200 miles. I can't tell any wear. On pavement they are solid, and handle well thru the bends. I don't know about wet pavement on either bike. I'm a fair weather rider. I use extra caution with the 404's when I see gravel. It walks around a little bit and 15 to 20 is all I do on gravel roads. . I wouldn't take the Honda off the road onto the grass shoulder at speed, wouldn't even think about it. The XS, no problem at speeds up to 45. Never can tell when you might have to give something the road. The Honda I rely on brakes. But Deer and Hogs, it's a crap shoot. Deer hunters will enter the woods soon and chase the deer out onto the highways! WOOF!

Today I bent up the rear frame tubes. (PITA) This years new motto is to substitute XS650 build in place of fall yard work. Working out great so far.

Your pipe fitting skills are impressive. Anyone who has ever tried to cut and fit joints from one round tube to another, and throw in the fact that the tubes are at an angle to each other, knows how hard it is to get a clean , gap less joint. Your joints look just about perfect! Well done!

Big shout out to 650Skull who has changed the first few posts on the Model ID thread to include changes in each year plus new photos!!

Wow, I just saw that too. Dang Skull, a thankless task if there ever was one! Thanks for the efforts.

i greatly accept the Nobel XS650 ID, pix, brochure, information prize
