Shops and Garages

Technically I don’t live in Ft Wayne any more. I just moved to a small village about 12 miles away. Still love the Fort though. It’s nice being rural with the big city minutes away. Ft Wayne is incredibly affordable with a lot of really cool stuff happening downtown. A very up and coming city! I’ve got some plans for some really cool photo shoots with all the awesome building murals around town. I’ve just got to get this bitchin’ barn done so I can get the 75 back on the road.

Is MacMillian park still there? I remember he lives within walking distance. Only time I was there I was about 10, and we all went to the 4th of July fireworks there. Seen him many times since then though, of course. No explanation for why I remember the name of McMillian park.

He retired from GE many decades ago and I'd bet you he STILL receives a pension from them. Totally anachronistic. I know several IBM'er who retried during the Selectric typewriter era and still get a pension. My aunt worked for the school there for many years and got fired without reason like a week before she'd have been eligible for her pension from there. Another anachronism -- would be lawsuit and big settlement today.

McMillen Park is still there. Not much to it anymore though. There is a lot of gang and drug related violence on the SE side of town. GE has long been shuttered but there is a huge movement now to save the massive campus from demolition. They are converting it to apartments and commercial retail space. They are some really neat old industrial buildings. There is also a major movement revitalizing the downtown area along the rivers which is pretty cool. Someone else once mentioned listening to our famous WOWO am radio from far off lands.. lol.

WOWO is familiar but I'm not sure if I ever heard it. I was kind of an am DX'er like a lot of people. Sorry to hear about the park area of town going down. My brother talks to my uncle on the phone regularly but I haven't heard anything about gangs and stuff. He and my aunt still live in the same house, confined to wheel chairs. My cousin fled to Canada during Vietnam. He was the funniest guy I ever knew. He's still up there, works for the national ballet. I never saw GE in Ft. Wayne, but have seen it in Schenectady from a train, and it was hugely impressive.

I likes fixtures.

So, we'll just park this here for awhile...

Haha, wheel chocks for the cats...?

It's been a year since installing my new building.
By now, the foundation is settled, and the paint should be dry.

Time for a workbench and shelving.
Here's a long wall, begging for something to be attached to it.

I added blocking between the studs.
Stiffens the wall, plus adds handy little shelves.

Need to attach an enormous number of horizontal joists.
So, made up a fixture, in the hopes of making it easier...

Man, I'm beat. It's 95°F out there.
Time for a long nap.

No, this is not the proper way to do this.
The load paths go thru fasteners in shear force.

But, it should be stout enuff to hold my collection of styrofoam, cotton balls, and dehydrated water...

Hey, Bob! Thanx!
Yeah, the years just fly by.

... Are going to add any leg board out there?

Ummm, "Leg" board?
*That's* an idea. A place to prop my leg.

Yup, more to do.
Some polyurethane finish, electrical, lighting, splashboard.
Planning a 4' enclosed cabinet, attached to the far end.

Then all gggGary's my junk, and the eventual filth.
Amazing, cobwebs have already started appearing.

I've had this running battle with Cob spiders...
