Nice. I like the colour.

So do I!

love it!

Almost thought that was an R5 with that paint job.

I had one with that paint scheme, fully tuned - scariest bike I ever owned. 0 to 60 in an eye blink ... 60 to 0 in about 6 blocks haha. Drum brakes were a mere suggestion.

I had an R5 too. Wish I still had it. It took a bit of tweakin' but you could take the front drum from a mere suggestion to "adequate."

nice!!!

Mine had DG pipes which got in the way of the kickstart, so I always had to bump start it AND they also eliminated the center stand and keep the side stand from fully coming up sooo I had to ride with the side stand in my jacket and slip it on once I was ready to park it hahaha. I was 17.

I’ll see if I can dig up a pic.

I had this down to a science.... park the bike on the centerstand and put it in 2nd gear. When ready to leave, I'd turn the key on, leave the clutch out and rock the bike off the stand with my feet on the pegs. Soon as the tire touched the engine would bark into life. Pull the clutch, down to 1st and off I'd go. People used to swear I had a secret starter of some sort in it. :D
It's the only bike I've ever had where I could consistently pull that off.

Is the R5 harder to find than an RD350 or 400? Love the look of that bike! Maybe I should start the hunt for one.
Well the orange was the R5C (72), so 1 yr only. Makes it a little harder....

ive seen a lot more RDs then R5s mainly due to the fact it was only in production for like 3 or so years.

Personally If I had the choice to pick between the two I’d take an early RD over R5. - 6 speeds, reed valves and better (still not all that great) braking, more aftermarket parts.

*edit - just looked at production years. Bothe the r5 and rd350 were only in production 3 years. - RD must have had higher production numbers or at least it seems there are quite a few more of them roaming around.

Thanks. All of those bikes are extremely hard to find up here and if they are in decent shape they bring big dollars to the seller. At our cottage, the grandson of our neighbour had a 350 parked behind my shed for years. Left uncovered. Criminal. I went to the cottage one weekend and the bike was gone. Asked the neighbour where it went and he said he was tired of looking at it so he took it to the dump ... true story. He was happy the dump gave him $100 for scrap metal. I nearly cried!

When I was in high school, a friend of mine bought an R5, it was the first street motorcycle I ever rode, I was hooked! A few months later I bought a ‘73 RD350, I loved that bike. The two of us used to go riding together at night, and the smoke from our exhaust would really show up in the headlights from the cars behind you. We’d take off and it looked like we were fogging mosquitos! :laugh2:

Not mine, taken from elsewhere on the internet, 1066cc monster , Pat French built this for hillclimbing, in the UK hillclimbing is like a twisty sprint up a hill on finished roads, unfortunately Pat French died quite a few years ago now, now up for sale again through national sprint association ltd Facebook page
