Everywhere I look for parts I will find the a particular are part will fit a 74 76 in fitment section rod strangely the 75 xs650B is almost always missing. For example of the performance carbs from mikes do not include the 75 in the fitment list. I bought them anyway, not knowing there were better things out there, but they are working fine so far.
But why? Is there something different, special or bad about the 75 XS650B?

Most parts are interchangeable. 75 had the 34mm front end with compatible parts same as the 73-76. Later was the 35mm. But as far as engine parts most things are the same. Ignition changed around 80 I think to the TCI instead of points. Are there specific parts you are looking for? Some of these parts were even used on other models of Yamaha’s. I find using partzilla to obtain factory part numbers helps source the interchangeable parts through a search engine. Lots of knowledge here on this forum with plenty ready to help.

Thank you for the tip about partzillia, and thank you in advance to all those willing to help. I am currently looking for fork tubes (mine have some pitting), progressive Springs (mine are not progressive type). And a center stand. Eventually something to replace the points. I'm sure the list will keep growing...

Yup partzilla is (mostly) your friend, the fiches do have a few errors here n there.
Center stands are specific to 74-75 but only because the tang had to clear those low stock mufflers.
Most anything engine related, 74 up is fine.

The main difference between the 74 and 75 is the color. If the part you want isn't listed for a 75 try a 74.

I have a good, complete set of 74-75 fork tubes, in nice un-pitted condition. I also have the correct 74-75 center stand. I'm sending you a PM......

.
I just compared some center stands, and yes, you are right. Good info, I never knew that.

Here's another good resource for finding and comparing part numbers over the years...
