Mystery Tool - what is it?

Hint: This tool is currently in the international spotlight, being mentioned on your daily national newscast.

Bingo !
That was quick, Peter.

Placebos are an integral part of Covid vaccine research, in fact, most drug research.
The "double blind" experiment, in particular.

Placebos were banned because the Placebo Effect was considered to be "manipulative", despite being effective.

Placebos aren't used on animals because they don't work on animals.

Hi 'dude,
gotta say that if I were fed an inert jollop and told it was a cure I'd be extremely pissed off if I found out.
I mean, I know when a politician's lieing, his lips are moving. A Doctor, not so much.

Interesting tidbit of info:
Despite being regarded as unethical for use in general practice medicine, they actually are being used today.
For example:
In a recent survey done at the University of Chicago Medical Center, 45 percent of internists who filled out an anonymous questionnaire said they had used a placebo at some time during their clinical practice.

Hey Fred!
If you are referring to Covid Research, they aren't being used covertly. Volunteers are told that they will be getting a placebo or an experimental vaccine,
So they are aware of whats going on.
This is different than The Placebo Effect use of a sugar pill in a general practice.

Close enough, its a Turner H-1 Halide leak detector. Its Unused from my collection.

So how does the detection happen is it the big explosion that blows out all the windows + doors and damages the workers hearing.
Someone would use it for any leak whatsoever and if it is big.Leak ...much can happen.
Or was people smarter in them days. It can be difficult to smell a gas i suppose.
I suppose it is lit as a regular blow torch and the ejector force draws out the leaking gas.
The flame changing color ?

Pin release tool for wiring connectors?

A "fid" is that tool previously mentioned for working with stranded rope - splicing mostly. The tool shown is MUCH too light duty for that, plus metal edges and rope do not mix. AFAIK, most, if not all, fids are wooden.
