Downeaster's Tractor Overhaul Thread.

Thanks for trying!

I contacted the place in Kentucky about a ring and pinion and he replied "front or rear?" which makes me wonder 1)If he knows much about Shibauras as the SD1400 is 2WD, but; 2) that may indicate that he has at least some Ford/Shibaura parts. I told him I needed the rear parts, he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

I actually re-activated my FarceBook account to contact him. I'm so ashamed...

Still thinking I may part it out and keep the engine for a power unit. No need to make any firm decisions yet tho.

Turns out he does have the parts. Quoted me "$850-$1000, plus shipping."

Nope. Nope nope nope. On the Nope Train to Screwthatville!

I saw the quotation

4 times the machine price .Something is wrong there .. I doubt anyone would pay $ 1000 dollars for parts for that tractor
Not even $ 100
Not knowing the prices in the US or interest ..I know there are enthusiast for tractors to
And sometimes things are more expensive than one could think but a $ 1000 ???
We are not talking a vintage Ferrari automobile in mint Condition here ..

Exactly. I'd go $200-$300 plus reasonable shipping as the rest of the tractor is in good shape and I could re-sell it and make a couple of bucks on it. The more I look at it, I'd kind of like to have it around here as well.

I believe they can be repaired. At what cost? I dunno.

Mike

The ring gear maybe. Built up with hardface welds and machined back to spec. Spray welding maybe, dunno.

The pinion is so far gone I can't imagine it being salvageable.

The setup and machining costs would probably make new parts (if available) look cheap.

Still holding out faint hope for used parts at a reasonable price.

Might look abroad for parts? I did some more looking 'round, also struck out. What ford was the equivalent?

Have you looked here?
Up in your part of the country. Maybe you can compare parts in person.

From that link.
