Have to keep remembering that this is a hobby and fun.

As my motor is in pieces because my stupid expensive gas tank with the crappy liner shit the bed and ruined my freshly rebuilt motor, and now I have to find , buy and repaint a new gas tank and I’m spending money like I have a never ending supply.........I too have to remind myself that this is supposed to be a hobby and fun! :cautious: Sometimes it just seems like an endurance test.

Today I got to work a little early and to pass the time I decided to see if my little lathe could turn down a stator cover to replace my tatty standard one.It was more of an experiment to be honest but I cut some aluminium (or aloominum for our friends over the pond ;)),welded a stub on the back and gave it a whirl in the Myford. To be fair it came out better than I thought so I may keep it.I quite like the 'billet' look.

Very nice!! Not to throw cold water on it, but did you check that it'll clear the rotor nut? I wanted to make sure there was clearance there so I used a 20T press to "dish" the blank before I turned it.

You are exactly right Jim....I noticed the crank nut has very little room tonight when I tried it on the engine.I need to cut off the slug on the back, put it back it the bigger lathe and remove a little from the back.

I took a stab at doing a rear 4 pot caliper upgrade. At first I tried going thru the axle but ran into clearance issues. Welding a tab to the frame seemed like a good to idea.

I just need to come up with a spacer between the axle and extend the caliper stay rod.

'75 Motor Buttoned Up At Last
Going to use the tins in as found condition. Motor will be a candidate for the GN250 ignition and a set of linked carbs. Frame may get a set of 35 mm forks.
Probably go back to it in April when weather better.

Finally got the frame, swingarm, sissy bar, engine mounts, triple tree, handlebar mounts, forward controls, and other various bike metals all sandblasted and gloss black powder coated :D, for a very very decent price . Stay tuned for the re-build.

well respectively, the guy that did this is a good friend of mine and his boss and him are friends so it was a simple discussion. It will start at around $150 depending on where you live, and that doesn't even include sandblasting. The more parts, the more cost. The color you want will again cost extra, unless you don't want a color like black or white. in my case I got gloss black.

Finished a pigtail to adapt a gonzo box to my '82, using appropriate color-coded wiring from a salvage harness I bought many years ago. Won't be able to try it out until my bike is out of hibernation later this Spring. It will be a backup for the OEM TCI, which so far is working just fine but approaching 40 years old. Many, many thanks to those of you gurus who worked all this out for the rest of us!

I scored one a bit less complete and in rougher shape for the same a few years back. Even if it never runs again, it's a gold mine for parts. Price some of the parts like wheels and engine side covers on eBay and you'll see. I see it has a nice early flanged alloy rim front wheel. If it is an '81, it should have the right engine cover with the oil sight glass.
