Mr Riggs Hydraulic Clutch Conversion

So a bar of 6082 Aluminium turned up on my doorstep yesterday. I’m going to drop this off with my machinist tomorrow after work and he’s eager to get cracking straight away.

I’ve also spoken to a CNC machine shop, as there has been so much interest, it seems wise to get an idea of what it would cost for a small run of 10 or so. At least for the slave body itself.

I’m imagining this may work out more cost effective and my machinist won’t get bored to tears with the repetition of producing ten of the things, I also don’t want to tie him up too much as I still have plenty of Titanium machining for my own bike.
At present I’m still thinking he’ll machine the pistons and bore hone the cylinders once completed. We shall see, I expect we’ll have something close to the finished product within a fortnight.

Daniel.

This is an interesting looking mod. I haven't read through all the posts, what kind of cost are you looking at for a unit?

Stopped by to see my machinist on the way home tonight.

I dropped off the 6082 and we talked through the finer details of the slave cylinder design. I’m going see him again Wednesday, I expect I’ll be able to show you guys something then.

Daniel.

one caution

I have three covers here. I also have three different dimensions to the snap ring groove.
I'd consider leaving it long and supplying a binary shim set with or w/o a wavy washer.
Just a thought...

Hi @kopcicle

Thank you for your input! Any help anyone can offer is hugely appreciated, as I’ve said this is my first venture into anything like this, so if anybody can highlight something I’ve missed then we all benefit in the long run.

Could you elaborate a little on the problem you foresee? Are you saying there are differences in the thickness of the area of the casing that the slave cylinder will pass through, meaning the groove for a circlip that will work with my casing may not work with others?

What do you mean by binary shim set?

Daniel.

Good observation and solution. Any measurements to quantify the variance?
