Mannulus Mechanica (build thread)

Worth checking
Any marks on first or second gear wheels ,? cant see any on the pictures.
Crank Bearings and connecting rod small end play ?
New bearings going into gearbox ?
Or perhaps have some plan already.
All the bearings look, feel, and sound good. No plans currently to replace any of them.
You debated or planning the 5th OD mod?
I had thought about it but I don’t think I’m going to. 17-32 seems to be just about right for my 80 so I think I’m going to do an 17-32 on this one as well.

So I think I may have the motor out of a corporate sponsorship race bike! I’m convinced this motor was once in the Peramtex bike! I can’t think of any other reason why someone would use SO MUCH GASKET GOOP! The PO of this motor had a serious love of grey RTV, Yamabond, and HI-Tack.

HI-TACK, because next time that motor comes apart it won’t be your problem.

Despite the PO’s best efforts I managed to get most of the gasket surfaces cleaned up and re-leveled.

I shot it over the original paint, so no etch. Cut it with lacquer thinner. After the cases were prepped, I sprayed 'em with straight lacquer thinner.... 1, to further clean 'em and.... 2, to soften the existing paint for better adhesion. Have the POR ready to shoot and spray 'em as soon as the lacquer thinner evaporates.

Looks Nice. -- Very Nice ... I did not think one could do that oneself. getting it so pretty.
Some of Jim's work also looks amazingly fine.
I have a block that would benefit getting some paint
But I don't have a Compressor.
Can it be painted with a brush or will that look terrible ???

I just used VHT aerosol paint. I only used my spray gun to spray some lacquer thinner on the case.

Rattle cans can do really good as long as you're careful. That looks pretty darn good!I need to decide if I'm painting mine or letting it go back natural. Really leaning towards paint. Wonder how well the vht holds up to carb cleaner and gas being spilled on it.

Thank you ... that makes a difference. Please give info about which color that is
there are several " Grey Ones "
Will it need a clear coat ?

Is it durable or is the one Jim has in # 144 a better option
The aerosol makes it simpler.
Come to think of it I have an electrical spray gun

I used universal aluminum and GM satin black.
No clear coat needed.
It’s quite durable if you do adequate surface prep & cure it once it’s dry.
When painting engine components 75% of your time is spent cleaning and prepping the surface.

Got my ignition switch bracket mocked up, using a 3 position with momentary for the electric starter. Got a batt box. And got a set of frame tabs from @Travis/chop source. I gotta say at like four bucks and some change I couldn’t have made them that cheap.

Looking pretty good. I was going to try and get to raw aluminum heads and case. Since the case was top half painted from the factory I went ahead and bought the same paint. Turned out pretty good for what it is. Now I can reassemble.
