I hate to reef on things with out knowing what I'm getting into
Can the plug ends just be pulled of and I buy new ones
Or Can I pull the wires off the coil end
Otherwise it's off to find the OEM parts number and the search is on

Yeah, slide that thin rubber cover up past the bottom of the cap and then unscrew the cap. Check the wire for corrosion. If need be you can trim the rubber wire cover back a wee bit to expose some fresh wire.
There are some good tips in the tech section for working on the coil and caps.

You can also pick up a used Honda MP08 coil off Ebay reasonable. Most of us here feel they're a better coil than the XS and you can replace the caps and wires on them.

2 for $36.85 One for the 80 and one for the 75

Get 0 ohm (no resistance) caps, so you can use BPR7ES plugs.
I take it I can just go to Napa and get the wire and caps
What do I look for when getting no resistance caps some kind of markings on the cap (they should know ?)
I will be putting AP63's on the bike like I did on the 75 They seem to work fine)

I replaced my caps uhmany years ago, not sure now as to the resistance but it was researched in the tech section (my digital memory, allows me to concentrate on important things like which end the food goes in...) and the proper ones were purchased for my application. They are NGK but designed for the solid top plugs because I run an AP65 in the left cylinder and an AP64 in the right. AP65 doesn't have the removable cap. One may wonder why I do this. The late XSJohn had a fixation on the higher temp of the right cylinder and worked on ways to bring that down. Some may say it's snake oil but I've run them now for many years with no ill effect, not sure of any temp drop as I don't have any way to test it and really don't care. At this point in time the concept is filed away in me mind right alongside with putting slices of bologna in my shoes ala Steve Martin so I can "feel funny".

Points are a 2 coil system. The MP08 won't work on the 75

Keep in mind you can get resistor wire, resistor caps or resistor plugs. You only want 1 of the 3.
Got it
well I have an extra coil which is kinda like having plenty of gas in your bikes tank
Not a bad thing
I take it that there is no polarity on the new coils either wire can go in either location (not the plug wires)

NGK makes a nice non-resistor cap, the LZFH, but it's made to fit the terminal stud (terminal nut removed) so make sure those AP63 plugs have a removable terminal nut.

And yes, from what I've seen, the AP63 is a resistor plug (having 4K ohms resistance) so it would be best to run it with a non-resistor cap.

Ap63s have removable nut
Now all I need to do is get non resistor plug wires
Thanks !!
Geez it's so much easier keeping this all in 1 thread

For plug wires, for many years now I've been using the EMPI brand silicone plug wire kits for VW Beetles. You get 5 wires in a kit, enough for 2.5 twins, lol.

To assure good contact, before installing the cap or inserting the plug wire into the coil, I strip about 1/8" of the insulation off and fan the wire strands out in a radial pattern like so .....

I'll have to check it out
Thanks!!

And there may be some good news on the horizon concerning the non-resistor NGK BP7ES sparks plugs we've used and loved for years. It appears NGK may have re-released them under a new stock number. They used to be stock #1034 but are now stock #2412. I ran across them on eBay but so far, they are listed mainly from European sellers. Hopefully they'll be available in this country soon .....

Would the old coil from the on the 80 work for the 75
