What have you done to your XS today?

More related to the rope and knot topic - at work we also used block and tackle set-ups extensively. I recently made up a nice, small one to use for lifting the 650 engines. I have a ratcheting cable come-along but I thought a block and tackle might be simpler and easier to use, and it has proved to be. I bought a couple nice, used all metal 2 sheave blocks off eBay and some nice 1/2" white nylon line from Amazon. A block and tackle with 2 sheaves in each block give a 5 to 1 mechanical advantage, and that makes lifting the 150 pound 650 engine pretty easy .....

I hang it from a heavy pipe laid on top of the rafters of my shed, using a short rope sling or "choker" I made up .....

Very nice 5T, you have the greatest rigs, jigs and fixtures, not to mention great photography too..

And my wife asked me how did you store the table saw in the garage rafters by yourself? Nowhere near as elaborate as your set up but did the trick. Picture doesn’t show all the pull-ups attached to the cross ties.

Today I was doing some testing on my ignition and when I first turned the gas on, my left carburetor started drooling gas on the floor. Thinking I had a sticking float, I grabbed a wooden handle screw driver to start tapping on the bowl. That’s when I realized the leak was coming from the fuel filter.

The filter had some cracks in it.

I had bought a bag of these things from EBay and I’ve gotta say I haven’t been too happy with them. They turn opaque almost immediately and their shape becomes distorted. I installed a new fuel line , minus the filter, I intend to remove the other side filter also.
Which brings me to my discovery of the day! I bought a cheap pair of extended reach , angle tip needle nose pliers a while back on EBay. They are pure junk, but I finally found a use for them. I have never been able to remove and replace those carburetor fuel lines in place without removing my carburetors. They are absolutely perfect for reaching in that tiny space and grabbing on to that fuel line. They worked like a charm!

I bought my sintered bronze fuel filters from an aircraft supply outfit and they are still crystal clear. Looks like your fuel line is smaller than mine. Are you using 3/16” or 1/4”? I too am using Tygon fuel line but find I’d gets a bit larger when exposed to fuel. If I recall correctly, the 3/16” was too small for the fuel filters I have.

Yeah if I want to keep fuel filters, I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet and buy better quality ones, they were inexpensive.
This is the fuel line I bought, it’s very stretchy stuff, and it holds its shape without hardening.

I received the Tytronic for the XS and Dyna for the Honda. Just for giggles. Probably install the Dyna first.

Like your filters you get you pay for with the fuel line. No two ways about it. I personally don't care about OD and use 1/4" oil and gas resistant air hose. It's wound tighter and doesn't swell with time as bad as the other except for aircraft line
 
I didn't get much done to the xs today due to the strong gasoline smell in the garage now and the rash on the back of my hand. Hoping it clears up tomorrow and can the leak to stop before Monday morning starting a new job and need it.....

I know what you mean! I to have paid for the cheap filters and have gotten my money's worth I guess and every time I am removing a fuel line I reach for the bent nose needles from Harbor

I believe you may find Visu-filter in a local shop. MikesXS/Dime City has them. The real McCoy lasts a very long time and still not too expensive. Mine are still running clear after several years.

Exactly right. The cheap copies sold on eBay are gawdaful and dangerous to say the least.

I bought a pack of 5-6 of the cheap ones too and after reading a bunch of these post I bought a few Visu 90 degree filters
I guess I'll just put the cheap ones in the bin with the other parts from the island of misfits and mistakes
 
Today I made adjustable fork stops and reassembled and installed the forks. Back on it`s wheels.:thumbsup: Finally found my shorter clutch cable and assembled the side cover. Thought about a front fender and spedo:doh:. Lucky for me I snapped out of it.:shootme: Needs to be completely finished by Oct 15th.:shrug:
