Put em up
A lot of us have more than just the 650 in their garage
I am new here and do not want to upset this applecart. There are/were many interesting motorcycle (none like an XS of course) in the past that are now coming available. We have in this group owners of diverse motorcycles but I didn't want to break traditions or push boundaries.

I look at my "craigslist" and my "Fakebook market place" and if I find something of interest to me I like to share it. I endorse none of the bike I post because I have never seen them. I would be glad to go check them out for an interested person if I am 30 or 45 minutes away. I do go looking for XS listings but get sidetracked.

I paid just ($180) but got no title with it, need to pick it up tomorrow morning. It's a GL which has a few differences vs. the CX500. The mono shock and the ignition. Along with supposedly better front forks which have air valves and are different somehow.

Despite a roached tank, headlight, and seat etc. most important things seem to be intact. I would rather find bikes like this that are just bone stock then buy a basketcase/ disassembled project that someone has worked on (without care). Atleast I know the carbs are here and havent been messed with or missing internals. Then obv rust is a big factor, pitting or severe rot on stuff like the H pipe is not fixable or polishable and costly $$$. These things are whats important, like straight front forks and useable oem parts.

I pick'd one of these last Sept.... parts bike..no paper, 82' Gl650. $150.oo I just wanted the front end...dual rotors.... from ball bearings to axle. My 82' Cx500 P trike has one disc and rear golf cart drum brakes on 16 inch car rims. Does stop fine in parking lot but above 45 mph stop requires an appointment. Gave the rest of the bike away to a CX buddy.
The other half... aka Speedy.. had the day off and wanted to see what I do ...... So.. I had her polish the front rim after I blasted the rotors... installed a new tire... I had her " polish " for nearly two hours... then broke for lunch.... I ask'd if she wanted to return to polish... her reply.. " I think it needs to settle for a week ".... I don't think she'll ask what I do in the future. :)

No its a 500, I mean its pretty rough, im not sure if I overpaid waking up this morning. But a quick ebay search of the carbs selling for $125 - $200 means that I could break even on just that If i wanted to part this bike out.

That looks like a seriously cool project. Buddy had one when it was new. Dependable as sunrise it was. What's your plans for it?

Plans are to source some side covers, gauges, and a tank, buy some tires and a seat. I do NOT want to sink more than another $3-400 into it. I have other bikes im working on for that! But first off I would like to see if it runs/ get it running!

If I get lucky and the motor is not seized then I want to put some mileage on this! My old CX500 was crazy reliable, I put tons of miles on it and paid $175 for it suprisingly, $5 less than this Silverwing. Albeit the CX was much cleaner and not missing much parts. But prices have gone up I think! I recently bought a rod knock CX500 in rough cosmetics for $500, and sold it along for $900! So I dont think $180 was bad for this GL
