What year is this tank? The original tank that came with the XS650 has a opening lip that is almost flush with the surface of the tank.

The new gas cap I bought from Mikes XS will not lock down. The locking device and stopper are 3mm short of the bar and tank mouth.

1979 gas tank

I bought this tank on ebay for my 1979 rebuild. I ordered a 1979 standard gas cap from MikesXS and it doesn't lock onto to the tank. The reach of the locking device on the cap is too short.
Is this tank a 1979?
What cap will fit this tank?
The lip is higher on the tank I got from Ebay that the original rust bucket that came with the bike. That lip is almost flush with the gas tank.
Any and all help is appreciated.
