My $10 offer on this E Type cam chain adjuster for my 78E project was accepted. But as you can see in the first picture, this one had a pretty hard life. I could have just swapped in the guts but thought I'd see if I could clean it up a bit and use it. I like shiny.
My finishing schedule:
1. This was pretty rough so had to start aggressively to remove the gouges. Used a small 120 grit sanding drum in my small parts polisher to smooth things out.
2. Hand sand with 240 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
3. Hand sand with 400 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
4. Hand sand with 600 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
5. Hand sand with 800 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
6. Hand sand with 1000 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
7. Buff with White Diamond bar on cloth wheel
8. Buff with Red Rouge bar on cloth wheel
9. Buff with Green Honing Compound on cloth wheel
10. Hand Buff/Polish with Autosol
Robin, I always love looking at your progression photos. Your albums are great tutorials for polishing!
You could’ve stopped halfway and it would’ve looked 100% better than what you started with.
Nice work!
