Right. First would slip thanks to the missing teeth.
Splitting the cases wasn't hard and you don't have to take the top off - you can service the transmission by turning the engine upside down and taking the bottom off. I put mine into a milk crate as I've no proper stand. Not ideal but...
I've yet to ride mine - I've only had it running so far. First gear wouldn't work if it was ready to roll though. I'm waiting for a replacement gear to arrive.
While the rest of the guts seem in good shape, all tight and nothing wiggling and all spinning smoothly - that first gear needs a replacement. Oddly, nothing else looks out of line. Wonder what happened...
Thanks for the direction Jim - just hoped extra eyes might see something obviously holding things together.
Edit: This engine had no nut on 16... not essential I guess - I will be replacing it with one all the same though!
Anyone see anything I need to remove to be able to spilt the cases? I don't want to be banging on it if something is holding them together besides Yamabond...
