79xs650 with PMA and capacitor = not starting

Well, I did hook the cap up to a small battery tender and it took a charge. I don't have a healthy battery. Is there another way to test it? Edit: And yes, I'm running points.

I surely did NOT check the voltage. That being said, do you suppose I get a new cap, install it and then check the voltage while it's running (assuming the damn thing starts!)?

79xs650 with PMA and capacitor = not starting

Hey all, I installed Hugh's PMA last Fall and ran a small battery. It worked! Til I fried a cell in the battery. Replaced battery, it worked and then again fried a cell. So, I swapped the battery for a Sparx cap. I rode it home from the shop (about 10 miles) and it ran well. Hell, it started...

    Thanks to Hugh's Handbuilt!!!

Installed my new PMA from Hugh's...and did the install myself! That says a lot, trust me. Got a little help with the wiring. No more charging problems. She's a first kick every time kinda bike now and she doesn't stall out and need a jump anymore. Very pleased with the results. I'm running it...

Hey all, new fish in the pond

haha, thanks. That's actually fuel. In the process of troubleshooting when I couldn't kick it over, we detached the fuel line and forgot to hook it back up. Open petcock and bladow...pool of fuel. I'm bright like that. It has a tiny oil leak though, only a couple drops a day.

Hey all, new fish in the pond

Well, after a divorce I decided I better find something to do with my time, so I bought a motorcycle! A 79xs650 to be exact. It ran ok stock. The starter always blew a fuse so I just kicked it. Rode it a few times before it got too cold and then started tearing it apart with the intention of...

    Simplified wiring with Hugh's PMA

Hey folks, I'm horribly new to all of this. Just got my 79 back on the road after the rebuild. I freaking love it! I've had issues with the charging system ever since the rebuild. I'm running points system, kick only with the simplified wiring harness and reg/rec from TCBros. Also using a tiny...
