1978 Special with an 81 clutch??

Thanks for the reply Leo! Good to know about the clip. I'm guessing that the previous owner used tie wire as a replacement for the clip and it broke free and cooked my plates. Do you know if that cork plate with the steel should be first in with the steel facing in? Or perhaps the last cork...

1978 Special with an 81 clutch??

Great thanks for the reply. I'll pull out the callipers and look for the thicker steel plate that goes in first. Couple more questions: I noticed one cork friction plate that had steel on one face of it. Is that the first friction plate that should be installed after the clip? How does that...

    Muffler with a 2" i.d.?

Hey guys, I'm working on an 78 XS650 Special with a 2-1 exhaust. The problem I'm having is that the i.d for the muffler is 2". Does anyone know who makes a muffler with a 2". Most mufflers I have come across are 1.5 or 1.75". Are there reducers out there to bring it down to 1.75? Cheers Dan

Ultimate Coil Mounting Using Pete's Method... Discrepencies

Here's another option to consider: I removed the existing coil mounts (and horn). A couple 3/4" pipe clamps from Lordco and I fabbed up two small L brackets.

    277* rephase timing issue?

I should have updated when I solved the issue. It was the advance mechanism purchased from xs650direct (Canada's version of Mike's XS. Cheers

    277* rephase timing issue?

Sounds like the Mike's XS advance unit are notorious for advancing the ignition too far. I'll toss in the old advance unit and see if that makes things any better.

    Help! Looking for cam pics

Hey guys, I'm looking for some photos of a 277 HHB rephased cam that show the timing marks. When installing the cam, I set the left piston at TDC and noticed that the timing pin on the right side end of the cam is around 1 o clock. I'm thinking my timing is off, but I'm trying to collect as...
