Quick question, grease my rod? (on the bike, not me)

LOL OK thank you. I also wound up greasing the rod, and the issue, in fact, seems worse. I'm going to buy new carb manifolds anyway, and, I'll also look at the cable, the play is free, and it lands securely on the idle screw, but the revs still hang out really high and wind up jumping past 3k...

Quick question, grease my rod? (on the bike, not me)

Strangely, I pretty sure this is a pamco electric ATU. And there are no weights or bobs on one side, I know exactly what it looks like, don't I still need those?

Quick question, grease my rod? (on the bike, not me)

So I have an issue with my revs sticking higher than normal. One thing is, if I blip the throttle up to 2k and let it close, it will hang and suddenly want to go further BY ITSELF and reach up to 4k RPM. This is both in neutral and idling, and in any gear with the clutch pulled in. I did some...

New-Old XS650 Journey - Carb exploring and wrong parts, pointers?

That's fair, I feel like they could use a replacement. They are probably the original ones.

New-Old XS650 Journey - Carb exploring and wrong parts, pointers?

Hello again everyone, I greatly appreciate the help this forum gives me, and I am having a blast exploring this bike. Now I need some more pointers, in my case some good quality vendors for these carb parts. So, I believe I have discovered the source of my gasoline leakage out of my carb air...

New-Old XS650 Special journey - My initial problems

Excellent, incredibly useful information, thank you both. I am taking my time in general to learn this bike and deepen my understanding of motorcycles, and until my air filter comes in and the weather clears up, I'll be learning by word what to take care of. I'll get the filter on, then see...

New-Old XS650 Special journey - My initial problems

I'll take out and look at its guts, because the bike might also be running a little rich. I'll post about it if I get it figured out.

There's a bevel on both. I'm thinking a leak in the float valve? Or my float is defective causing the bowl to fill up with too much fuel?

New-Old XS650 Special journey - My initial problems

You just blew my mind. I checked the second carb, and it is the complete opposite but correct way, and it's so obvious like you said. The previous owner put the brass slide in backwards in one of the carbs!!! Thank you so much, I think this will solve my issues once I rebuild it. ^not actually...

New-Old XS650 Special journey - My initial problems

I think I know exactly what you're talking about. It seems to round off and upwards towards the front of the bike on the underside of the brass you're talking about. Is it supposed to be facing the air intake?

New-Old XS650 Special journey - My initial problems

I just bought a 1979 XS650 and got it home yesterday, I saw it on facebook and fell in love with the style, the simplicity, and knowledge of the power and reliability has me hooked on taking care of this pretty much entirely stock 650 from over 4 decades ago. One thing I noticed while riding it...

Are there any particular problems with the 1976 version of the XS 650 that one should know before purchase? Thanks.

Oh snap, that's so true, and I found one on ebay instantly. Thanks for that info, now we are cooking.

Are there any particular problems with the 1976 version of the XS 650 that one should know before purchase? Thanks.

Thank you! It's a 1979 XS650 Special, I don't know if there's another denomination name for this model but that's what it is. And I did cap about the "all stock" because the mirrors are clearly not, and the cover on the right side was lost replaced with an another original one and repainted...
