    gggGary's latest XS project "madness"

Thanks for your interest. The swing arm is a custom so.... Backed up that swing arm rectangular tube on a 2x4 in a vice, used an impact socket as a form and beat it into the tube to create a "J Dent" in the tube, the amount of effort with a big ball peen to do that was impressive. That swing arm...

What have you done to your XS today?

First load test that battery. A simple one is a big screw driver across the solenoid terminals see if she cranks. Then; get a nice jumper with good alligator clips and start jumping past components till you find what fixes it.

    Re-Bush for BS34?

You using the factory seals? (only thing that works) Usually just the bush that the throttle cable pulls against is bad. Bought a set of carbs from AZ one time, learned a lesson about desert carbs I did.

I'll see if I can shave a bit off the MC mounts to move it outwards a bit. But it's close to the frame too. Um yeah this HAS been going on a for a while. :yikes::doh: I installed longer shocks years go, reducing the amount it hit.

    gggGary's latest XS project "madness"

Thanks kind sir but the problem's not the rod. s'more pics. I see now someone had ground the hex off the bottom of the rod cuz it IS tight but the end of the MC piston getting pushed in by the swing arm when the shocks are compressed is the problem. This is a fairly thin 4130 custom swing...

    Re-Bush for BS34?

I looked and sure enough AZ. Badly worn shaft bushings after the first BS38 bushing length revision in 72 seems to be a desert (grit, dust) problem.

    gggGary's latest XS project "madness"

Well this is embarrassing! I've been riding this bike off and on for twenty years. While doing "Jim created" work I pulled the swing arm for paint and a look see at the bushings etc. It wasn't til I was testing swing arm drop with no shocks attached that I realized why the rear brake rotor and...

    Re-Bush for BS34?

Gathered all the parts n tools but never tried to do it. It's pretty fussy work and replacement carbs new and used are "dime a dozen" There are (were) shops that did rebushing of Solex carbs for cars. https://www.partsklassik.com/p-987-throttle-shaft-bushing-solex.aspx
