    My XS project

These came out a little harder than the originals. There is a setting that controls the density of the fill inside of a solid so it is possible to change that. I will have study more thoroughly that gauge repair thread as my tach is junk.

    My XS project

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I continually find out how little I know. One success I have had on this bike is in 3D printing bits that are no longer available. The rubber cushions for the gauges were turning to dust so I designed and printed in TPU some new ones.

    Carb slide springs

Now I am helped to figure out that the bike is an 80, not that that changes the carb issue.

    My XS project

Thanks for triggering my fading memory. You are right it is a 80 SG. Please disregard my previous post. I started looking on line and saw all the indicators of an 80 even with most of the visible parts changed.

    My XS project

I am learning more about this beast every day. Curious as to what are the clues to say it is an 80?

    My XS project

This is an 81 that was a special but I am attempting to make it semi standard. The tank is from a Kawasaki. I cleaned it up and painted it. I am reshaping and recovering the seat. I replaced the cam chain guide and redid much of the wiring. I opened up the carbs for a cleaning and found the...

Yes the needle jets are Y-6.

    Carb slide springs

I would like to make this bike run with these carbs. I can fix most of the issues if I can get the springs and necessary jets. Mike's XS has a kit that looks to be the jets I would need. I would just like to make an around town cruiser; doesn't need to be original just run.

    Carb slide springs

More pictures of the carbs. 20 inlets, 122.5 mains, 30 pilots, 4J24 needle, Number on the outside of both carbs: 1A8-60 along the lip for the bowls.

    Carb slide springs

These pictures look a lot like what I have but more more cleanly done.

    Carb slide springs

The bike was supposedly running but there were no springs in them when I opened them up.

    Carb slide springs

I will get more pics tomorrow. The whole bike is a collection of parts but I had been looking for an XS560 for a while and this was all I could find. The tank is a Kawasaki and it wouldn't surprise me that the carbs are not right for it. The parts linking them are all modified.

    Carb slide springs

These have the plastic buttons that hold the needle down inside the slide. The bike started and idled but died with any throttle opening.

    Carb slide springs

I have spent most of the summer working on what appears to be a '81 Special. Wiring, cam chain guide, oil strainers, etc. It now starts and idles but dies with any throttle opening. Pulled carbs off and they are a mess and not the correct ones for this bike. They look like early BS38s. Mikes xs...
