Howdy, I've got a 81 special ii i'm trying to sell, but I don't know much of the market on these things. I'm in the Kansas City Missouri area and I've replaced many different things, among them rotor and brushes, 2-1 exhaust with high flow muffler, pod filters, rejetted, new tires, battery, head...
Yeah, my pods look almost exactly like the Emgo pods on Motorcycle Superstore. How are Mikes performance pods? I've heard some people swear by them, and some people swear at them. I don't have a great big budget, which may be semi limiting. This would probably be the last things in the way of it...
They're cheap cone pod filters off of ebay or amazon, not oiled. I have cut the insides on angles so as to not block the holes on the intake bells of the carbs. Checked the plugs, and they're very white after full throttle runs. I get to a flat spot where it'll buck, much like when you let the...
Howdy, I've got an '81 special ii that I've been doing some work on. Motor specs are stock motor, BS34s, 2 into one exhaust, free-flowing muffler, pod filters, and Canadian needle set. right now i have 45 pilot, 145 main, needles raised to fourth notch. I go to run a full throttle test, and it...
I'm really new to figuring out anything electrical, have any idea where to start with on the switched wires? When I wired up the fuse box, I made sure to match the wires with the other of the same color combo, could I still have messed something up? The new fuse block is a single input post set...
So i checked the continuity of the wires and fuse block, and main fuse block was bad, so replaced it with an inline fuse box and it fired right up. Now there's constantly power to everything, no matter the position of the ignition key? Might I still have a short somewhere or do I have a bigger...

This is the link to the block that is in it now.
This is the fuse block that's on it now, so it doesn't have the stock fuse box. I haven't get to test it yet, but you still figure this might be the problem?
Sorry picture didn't load.
I have all stock electrical, I believe it is electronic ignition. MY main fuse has power, but none of my other fuses do, but they're not blown. On the simplified 81 wiring diagram, there's a connection after the switch and then through the reg/rec. Which might be bad? the ignition switch is...
Hey yall, I've got an 81 special II, and I'm having a problem getting power. I've removed the starter so its kick start only. I was going to start it, and it was getting hard to start. I flipped the ignition switch off and then back on again, and it didn't help. The neutral light then turned...
Turns out I made a really noob mistake... I didn't take the spacers off the stock needles and put them on the new performance needles. That solved my problem, now its just a matter of fine tuning. It still's runnin a little rich, but that I think I can get worked out.
Howdy y'all. I've got an 81 special that I've been working on. I gave it a new head gasket, rebuilt the sock 34mm carbs, and are trying to get the bike to run. Right now it'll kick start every time, but as soon as i give even a hair of throttle, it the motor flat out dies. I'm too much of a newb...
Howdy, I've got a 1981 special ii, and I'm doing a bit of work on it. I got the starter block off kit from mikesxs as i didn't want to mess with rebuilding the starter and just go without. I was wondering if I could alleviate the two small idler gears in the area where you take off the starter...
