How about checking the valve lash adjustment. If the bike was run hard and not maintained the intake valves may be tight. Borrow the right tools and spend a little time reading or watch a YouTube video and adjust em!
My first bike was one just like that back in 1980. Man those were the days!!! Rode the wheels off that thing then sold it to a friend and he rode it for years
And then there’s that advance rod from mikes. Sometimes the threaded end just snaps off all by its self. Mine left me stranded at the corner of pot farm rd and crack lab ave. Find a stock one if you can!
I know oil is cheaper and easier and you might as well try it first, but the springs are 40 years old now. Might have to switch them out if bump starting is important to you. Does the clutch slip when you’re on the gas?
