    Let's See The XS's

Abandoned, dead chopper when I found it. Junked the extended forks, king/queen seat, apehangers, etc. Rebuilt, somewhat refurbished, nice daily rider now. Nothing fancy. 5th XS650 I've had, starting in the early 70s. Always come back to them......

    Odd handlebar risers / clamps

I had a Virago 750 about 40 years ago, but don't remember much about it, except that my brother-in-law wrecked it..... I figure the extra holes in front of the handlebar top clamp were probably for gauge mounts. The other lateral holes..... who knows? They look like indexing holes for...

    Odd handlebar risers / clamps

The Virago risers have a similar angle, but none of the other weird features of those in the picture. I can't imagine what the extra holes and indexing holes and tapped holes might be for. No big deal, they work, but there must have been a purpose for those extras.

    Odd handlebar risers / clamps

Has anyone seen handlebar risers / clamps like these on an XS650 - or any other Yamaha or ??? These came with a front end which was a hybrid of XS and RD350. The clamps look like aftermarket items, with additional holes and features. Fit perfectly into the XS top triple tree. Standard 7/8".

    Mystery front wheel

The photos of the 73 RD350 wheel look very close to my mystery wheel, except for the drilled rotor (which could be aftermarket or modified). I looked at photos of a bunch of 73-74-75 RDs, and they all look the same as far as the hub and semi-circular rotor carrier. This is the closest I've...

    Mystery front wheel

H'mmm. The disc carrier with the 8 semi-circles looks the same. The hub and wheel mount look different. Did any other XS (or any Yamaha) use the same disc carrier? I wonder how interchangeable parts were from these different model wheels.

    Mystery front wheel

I'm wondering if the wheel itself is from an RD350 (18") and the brake rotor/carrier was from an XS2. The cut-outs on the rotor carrier are semi-circular, as on the XS2, but the original on the RD350 were more trapezoidal. My confusion might be because of a hybrid combination. Who knows?

    Mystery front wheel

Thanks. I've tried finding images of the RD350 wheel that match this, and come up with a blank. The earlier RD350 were drum brake, maybe only the last year or two were disc. The specific form of this disc looks like the XS2 disc, with the semi-circular cut-outs. Still puzzled.

    Mystery front wheel

Maybe someone can help identify a front wheel I have, supposedly from an XS650, but I can't confirm. It's a Takasago rim, stamped (a little hard to read) 180AX18 2G 206. Because of the odd-shaped letters, it could be 160AX18 or 180AX18 or even 190AX18 (I'll post photos). This is a steel spoked...

For Sale - Yamaha XS2/XS650 Front End, Wheel, Forks, Triple Tree

I'll post more pictures of the components. This does have bosses for mounting the rotors on both sides, to the rear. Pretty sure the rim is from 72, if the date-code key I found is correct. So probably a mixed bag of earlier and later parts, however, they all bolt together and work as intended.

For Sale - Yamaha XS2/XS650 Front End, Wheel, Forks, Triple Tree

Thanks for this input. I wasn't familiar enough with the different variations of the XS front ends, but was told that it was early XS disc model. I'll change the ad accordingly.

For Sale - Yamaha XS2/XS650 Front End, Wheel, Forks, Triple Tree

CORRECTION: I was informed that this actually may be 1976 model forks, due to the configuration of the triple tree and the fork lowers, with caliper mounts on both left and right. [Apparently NOT from XS2 or early XS650] (34mm tubes) which I did not use for a heavyweight bobber I built. This...

    Trip down memory lane

Howdy, all. New to this forum, but not to motorcycles or XS650s. I'm a retired senior citizen who's been on bikes since age 13, in the mid 1960s, and have had 50-some motorcycles of all makes and types, including a total of 5 Yamaha XS650s over the years. First was in early 1970s, while in...
