    Almost done

Thanks man yeah it feels good cornering I don’t have a lot of experience to compare but it feels good to me I haven’t rode it a whole lot yet and was gonna wait to go for a longer ride till I made sure the battery wouldn’t overheat again...I’m gonna test the volts while running today and go...

    Almost done

I just finished my first cafe racer build with this 1980 XS650G. Took it out for the first ride and it ran great but the battery got really hot. I tried to make it happen again with the seat pulled to watch and couldn’t seem to duplicate the issue. I think maybe the bolts on the bottom of my...

    Blowing main fuse

I have a 1980 XS650G that is damn near a finished product but is being held up by an electrical issue! I traced down a short to the connection between the reg/rec and the alternator. I can plug every connector on the bike into the harness and have 0 issues until I make that connection so I...

    Blowing main fuse

What order would you guys start testing these things to try and figure out what’s shorting out my main fuse?

    Blowing main fuse

I should have some time tomorrow to tinker with this a bit after some studying it looks like that connector has to do with the relationship between the alternator and the reg/rec? So I could have a short caused by my brushes? Or the wiring coming from my alternator? Or the slip rings? Or a a bad...

    Blowing main fuse

Yeah it sure looks like the regulator rectifier is the culprit I’ll find out here soon

    Blowing main fuse

Very cool thank you. I will add that before I took the brushes out and cleaned them a bit my main fuse was exploding when I plugged in that connector and now it is just melting the inner component so it seems to not be reacting so harsh at least to plugging that connector in if that’s worth anything

    Blowing main fuse

Copy that I don’t really know how to tell if the brushes are good or not but I can tell they’re old so I’m gonna get some coming regardless and hope that’s it then next step learn how to test the regulator.

    Blowing main fuse

It looks like it has a lot of the same color wires as the reg/rec I’m gonna strip the harness tomorrow and see where she leads
