Thanks everyone!
Damn well hope he'd eat the cost @Jim --or at least hang his head in shame haha. And I did ask him to check the surrounding wires, which he said was the plan.
At this point, I feel like ive waited long enough to see if I can find a cheaper one and nothing is popping up.
And...
Okay. Finally saw a pickup coil that fits my bike and isn't $300. The seller says its unused and OEM, and it looks like it. Here it is.
I just want to check with you guys real quick if there's any reason to worry that the pickup coil would break down on its own over time? Ie. should I have him...
Hiya!
I'm looking for a pick up coil for my 83 heritage special (part: 4M4-81670-10-00). Alternatively, if you have a compatible stator with the coil still attached, I'm up for that too! I'm located in Los Angeles.
Thanks!
Marie
It's been quite a pause. Here's the short version for now: due to my lack of time and work space, I was given the holiday gift of having the bike taken to a guy who works on Yamahas (most often motocross race bikes). According to him, so far it turns out that the pick up coil (4M4-81670-10-00)...
So this is what we're looking at:
Also, I feel silly asking this but I'm looking for a 10A 12V fuse right? Any kind of make or descriptor that will help me find it? When I enter basics online I get all sorts of different looking ones that are not for my bike, or just the whole fuse box; and...
Well well well, it looks like the old man has lost his spark. Didn't get a spark on either side. Should I try with the last set of plugs had in in case the plugs are bad? They look fine and new. So no spark...recommendations of where to start next? Coil wiring? Bad HT cables? Check battery...
Alrighty.
Short version: struck out. Still have to try 650Skull's suggestions but no time for it before work today.
Long version:
--Gapped spark plugs .030-.032. I hadn't before becuase I was grumpy, short on time, and hoping stock would be good again. They were pretty close already though: .035...
Hi everyone.
Still a beginner over here so bear with me. I was hoping I could sort this one on my own but I'm stalled now. We're dealing with an 1983 heritage special.
Short version:
bike tipped, ate through the little gas I had left upon restarting. Refilled gas, still won't start. charged...
Sorry for the delay. I finished the job and then got covid shortly after. Still on the mend.
Thanks for the wrench references guys. I have fishtail mufflers that the PO put on, but I think a wrench would get by them. How would I get the torque right on the rear axle if im just using a wrench...
Issue with that is that I have to take the muffler off (which is a real pain cuz it doesn't like coming off or going back on) to get at the axle for tension adjustment, so I'd have to put it on and take it off again and put it back on if I do it this way. Getting the bike on the center stand...
So I'm having some difficulties/uncertainty with the chain alignment/tension.
I have the rear sprocket on, tabs bent, I have the chain on withe the master link and clip installed, I have the front sprocket on and fully torqued (got it to 90ft/lbs...but it was strange...the wrench clicked, but...
Well I definitely didn't finish the other day. I got stuck trying to fold the damn lock tabs on the rear sprocket. Turns out I didn't have anything wooden or just not metal to really bend it back with. I did my best to pad the tools I was using to not damage the sprocket or bolts, but there are...
