With the grooves would be $125. Without just to clean up $85. We're getting another mill tomorrow though. I'll be setting that up/programming it and tramming everything on it for a bit. Still not taking on more work at present.
They can definitely be shaved that way. I've cleaned up some that weren't too bad. But more often than not people go way overboard with a flap wheel and take off a lot more than they realize.
If you do flap wheel something round just remember to go light and sand at a 45 across the contour...
Yeah, any shop should be able to do it. It's a super simple machining job. Cost should be minimal. I usually just shave them flush and then hit the whole lower with a brillo.
That will at least even everything out and be a good start for polishing.
I wouldn't charge more than an hour to do...
You need to be stern. Remind your bike that this kind of behavior is NOT acceptable. If necessary, be loud and state firmly "You are NOT a British Twin! You will NOT behave this way!"
It's so weird that Harley riders were so threatened by Japanese bikes in the 70's. Especially when you consider that the Jap bikes were just equally as cool looking but mechanically SUPERIOR clones of British bikes... you'd think the BRITS would be the ones pissed off!

I shave fork legs, but I'm pretty backed up with work right now.
If you have a shop local to you they can likely do it for cheap.
Chop the lugs ahead of time as close as you can get them with a grinder. DON'T try to grind them and smooth them out. You will most likely overcut. Just get them...
Don't waste your time drilling where the bulge is. Persuade it back and weld it to seal it up, then use that drill to give yourself a small weep hole at the bottom of the tube on each side just beyond the bend and a small vent at the top of the tube near the neck if you live in a climate where...
The entire tone of this thread has been to whine and complain because of the price, or because it's "just a bolt on parts build" etc. You even took the time to mention that you were discussing it offline. lol
I don't take issue with anything. I'm just calling a waste of time what it is...
I own a fabrication/machining business. I am fully aware of the difference between doing a cost/profit analysis in relation to value and just getting your panties in a bundle because you can't accept the price of someone else's item for sale (That you're not actually interested in buying...
Calculating the cost vs the price is one thing.
Ragging and complaining to people (who aren't the seller) is a reaction and completely voluntary. If you're not buying and paying the price, why care?
Bolt ons or not, good for them.
What they get for their bike doesn't really add or subtract from your pocket.
The simple fact is this: What is a custom bike of any kind worth? Well.. whatever someone will pay.
If someone wanted to pay 5 figures for this thing then opinions aside, the fact...
