First time this has happened in 45 yrs.

Will double check timing. Didn't discover the carb being blown out until I went to take the fuel line off of the left carb and was wondering why the fuel line clamp was so close to the side cover. Felt like an idiot when I finally figured out why.

First time this has happened in 45 yrs.

Had the bike out the other day for a ride and had just left the coffee shop. When I pulled up to a stop sign the left bank backfired and the bike was only running on one cyl. I managed to get it home on one cyl. and pulled the plugs out to check compression. It was good and when I looked at the...

    Starter Gear Fix!

Didn't find any shavings in the oil or stuck on drain plugs. Bike starts pretty quick. If starter slipped much I would use the kick starter. Inspected the crank gear and all was well with it.

    Starter Gear Fix!

Just went through this repair on my 650B this week. Got the gear from Mikes. When I took the old gear out the teeth were in real good shape but the spring had less than 2lbs of drag. New gear had a thicker spring and over 10 lbs of drag. Before I put the new gear in I used my dremel to give the...

    AGM batteries

Got the new battery today and installed it. Spins the engine like a top. Started right up. Now I just some good weather so I can ride.

    AGM batteries

Everybody around here gave AGM batteries a standing ovation. That's why I bought one, but my luck runs like this. If there was a boxcar full of these batteries setting there and I was allowed to reach in and get one battery I would pick the only bad one in the boxcar.

    AGM batteries

Spelling error on brand. Thanks for the replies guys. It's not riding weather here yet but when it warms up I want the bike ready to go.

    AGM batteries

Had an AGM battery in my '75 650 for a year and a half. Went to start the bike this week and it was dead. Of course it was out of warranty. It cost me about $140 when I bought it. It was on a battery monitor. Ordered a new yasua AGM on line for $39.00 shipped. Has anybody had any experience with...

    Just a question

Bike is all original with 31,000 miles. The wife and I used to ride a lot more than we do now. Most of our riding now is short trips in the daytime. Too many deer roaming around here at night. Bike has a Vetter Windjammer fairing with matching XS 750 bags on back. Just changed the starter gear...

    Just a question

1975 XS650B. Bought it in the crate when I worked for the Yamaha dealer on Sept. 11, 1975. Assembled it myself and been riding it since.

    Starter gear

Yes I have. Bent the spring and got correct resistance about two years ago. Starting to skip again and I was looking for a different fix. Didn't know if there was one out there

    Starter gear

By changing the angle on the starter gear I meant on the front of the tooth not the angle of the whole tooth if that makes it clearer. 5 twins, if I could get mine to last another 5 or 6 years that would be great.

    Starter gear

Probably been asked before but my memory isn't any longer than anything else I've got. Does anybody make a stronger spring for the starter gear. I thought I remembered somewhere at one time there was a discussion about this. Also, has anyone ever changed the angle on the starter gear teeth to...

What is the coldest temp / worst weather you ever rode in?

Some earlier in the post said they didn't believe anyone that said they rode in the snow. Sorry buddy. In the winter of 1965 I rode my Jawa Californian to highschool in the snow. Didn't have a car. Wrapped rope around the tires and through the spokes kinda like chains. Worked pretty good. Adapt...
