Hi thanks for letting me join group

Make sure the condensers are grounded. If they aren't it can create troubles of running hot.

    1980 Yamaha XS650 wiring and ground (-)

This is all good advice. I would add one more option, which is what I did. A heavy duty ground strap from a starter bolt directly to ground on the battery. This direct path leaves no questions as to continuity. Just a suggestion.

Anybody going to the Oyster run on 09/25/2022 in Anacortes, WA? It's free, can't beat the price. Weather is supposed to be in the low 70's. Nice ride up there, lots of curvy side roads you can take if you want to.

How-To: Rebuild XS650 Forks / Install Lowering Kit

Better late than never: Don't forget with a lowered front end the kickstand might need to shorten. Don't want your bike to fall over ha-ha!

    STARTER DELETE PROBLEMS... HELLLLLLP!

I have researched the starter block off conundrum and this is what I have decided to do. I have removed the starter and to answer someone's question about how to remove that last bolt: I put a jack under the engine and removed all of the mounting bolts and jacked up the motor and slid it forward...

1981 Scrambler XS 650 work in progress. I rescued this poor bike. The PO was riding it daily, when I got it home I found all the engine mount bolts were no more than hand tight. The engine ran great and the owner before the old PO had modified it somewhat and showered it with love and attention.

    XS650 Electric Start System

Finally got to test ride it. It amazes me how fast the motor winds up and starts now. Hit the button and it fires up. Less stress on the gears, it's just a quick stab on the button then off of the button. I'd like to thank all you guys for all the knowledge and ideas you have shared.

    XS650 Electric Start System

I just recently had starter problems. I read all this great information before digging into the problem. My solenoid also just clicked, clicked and clicked some more. Fortunately, I had just picked up another XS650 a 1983 and along with it came a complete extra wire harness with a solenoid I...

Clutch push rod seal, and other aftermarket essentials

It's not much fun when that oil drips down in front of your rear wheel as you are leaned over in a corner. Happened to me just today as I was taking my son on his first ever road ride. Yep, it was the pushrod seal. Having finely honed dirtbike skills the slide was of no coincidence. I did pull...

Yea projects, time and money. When ya got the money there's no time when ya got the time where is the money? It's hard to get all the ducks lined up in a row. Unless of course, you're single, then it is easier to get the ducks marching to a different drummer. CB 400 F? Can't wait to see what you...

Ain't technology fun? How is that new job close to home? I bought the calendar just because your bike was in it, well that, plus the other bikes were pretty cool too. I have yet to go for a ride this Spring, to busy with life stuff. I did pick up another XS 650, it is a Heritage model with a...

Been a while since I was here. Just picked up 1981 Heritage Special in running condition, about 98% stock. I am not sure what I am going to do with it. Keep it stock or make a bob job out of it.
