    Brake Lever Travel

Question, do the calipers on the 74-75 models have two pistons or just one? Schematic in the Clymer manual does not show it clearly. If two pistons , then one of mine is seized in the bore and may be perhaps the culprit in my issue.

    Brake Lever Travel

Well unfortunately after going thru the procedure , no improvement . Lever halfway to bar before any braking resistance. Not sure where to go next? perhaps a different master cylinder?

    Brake Lever Travel

So recently decided to upgrade my front brake system on my 75 XS650. I installed a new 13MM Master Cylinder from Hugh's Hand Built, and a one piece stainless brake hose, eliminating the two rubber houses and the brake light switch manifold etc.. Bled out the system a few times, and tied the...

75 XS650 Star Black paint match

The factory Star Black paint on my 75 XS is in good condition on the tank, but the side covers not so much. So want to prep them, and paint them rattle can, apply new decals and clear. Anyone know of a rattle can color that is a close match? Star Black has a subtle gold-silver metallic in it...

    Muffler Change / Jets

Thinking of changing out the stock mufflers on my 74 TX650 with MikeXS Commando Style dyno tuned* Universal Megaphone Muffler 26" . Wondering if this will require a jet change ? Anyone made the change to these mufflers? Thanks

    Jetting question

I decided before that before running down a rabbit trail with the carbs, I would go back and handle all the basics first (I've been fooled before). So adjusted the Cam Chain, Valves, Points, Timing, and a new set of plugs. Adjusted mixture screws for high idle,,,,,, and test drove. Like a new...

    Jetting question

I have a 74 TX650 as well, and the carbs on this 75 are identical. I'll check float height first, then check on the needles.

    Jetting question

OK , Pulled the main jets out and they are 125's , the chart above says that it should have 127.5 . Just to make sure I'm not messed up here, a 127.5 jet would be larger and make it run even more rich correct? I read thru the Carb guide and just not sure what my next move is. It accelerates...

    Jetting question

This 75 XS had just straight thru short slash pipes on it when I got it, way too loud for my taste. I replaced them with the reverse cone mufflers from Mikes XS, these are about the same length as the factory pipes. In riding it today lots of back fires -pops during deceleration . I pulled a...

    Clutch Adjustment Woes

The 1L9 XS400 actuator arrived and installed it this afternoon as per Twins directions. . Lubed up the cable with motor oil and I'm back in business. Good clutch travel, able to get neutral , and lots less effort at the lever. Thanks for all the info and help!!

    Clutch Adjustment Woes

I will make sure the cable is good and lubed up,,,, however the actuator mounting surface could be one of my culprits as well according to all the info on the tech page correct? When I mounted the actuator (previous to reading the tech article ) I tighten the screws pretty tight and probably did...

    Clutch Adjustment Woes

Yes, I am familiar with the adjustment process, and started from nil. Just could not get a happy medium. Then my attempt to fix it with a new Mikes XS actuator only worsened it due to the design that netted me less mechanical advantage than I had to start with. I'll let you all know how this...

    Clutch Adjustment Woes

Thanks for the clarification Twins,,,,, I'm all set now. I have almost as many sets of those calipers, as I do reading glasses! Great for quick work that does not require close tolerances. If this works out well, I might do my 74 TX650 as well, it does not suffer from the difficulty in finding...

    Clutch Adjustment Woes

Twins,, Thanks for updating the photos,,, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. I'll carefully review a the process and measurements. One item I'm not crystal clear on is the removing material (sanding) to correct the clocking. Am I sanding on the flat nylon mounting surface or the...
