I would like to replace the stock handlebars on my '78 XS. I'm looking for some handlebars that will give my bike more eye appeal. Does anyone have any suggests? My bike is completely stock...no mods that you would notice by looking at the bike.

I'm using a gel battery. The lights shine brighter as I rev the engine.

The head light was on. It idles around 1000 rpm, so maybe I'm good at idle.

Yes, I went back to the metal screws. I bought the regulator new (at least that's what the eBay ad claimed it to be) It looked new. The VR-115 had 4 wires (black, green, reddish-orange,and yellow) I connected it..... VR-115 black to black in the harness VR-115 green to green in the harness...

Partial success at last, I replaced my rotor with a new one from Custom Rewind (made the trip and picked the new rotor up in person). The old rotor was shot with resistance readings of 0.6 ohms. I installed the RadioShack rectifiers and the VR-115 regulator. I found the regulator on eBay...

Jawknee21, Some of the more experienced XS650 owners may have to correct me, but I believe, the brown wire supplies battery power from the key switch to the voltage regulator, if you have a stock wiring set-up on the 79 and earlier models. I'm not sure what it does on the later models. See...

Thanks Leo, I bought a new regulator today. I'm going to give it another try tomorrow.

Pete, I may have wired my regulator incorrectly. I used the NAPA regulator (part# MPEVR38SB) on 78 XS.... I cut the wires off of the old regulator and connected the green wire to the top bullet and the brown wire to the bottom bullet. I ran a separate wire from the inner brush to the brown...

I'm working the infamous charging issue on my 78 XS.....With the key switch turned on, bike not running, I'm measuring 11.99 volts on the brown wire going to the voltage regulator, but I'm only measuring 0.11 volts on the green wire coming out of the regulator, and 0.06 volts at the positive...
