18 inch or 16 inch rear wheel

18" are good for the twisties but will let you know about the tar road snakes on the straightaways. 16" are better with the tar road snakes but dampen the response in the twists. Other opinions may vary.

Should we be afraid of Artificial Intelligence?

I'm watching a documentary on FreeVee (Firestick) with the closed captioning on. The narrator has a right proper English accent and the closed captioning has to be AI generated. It's insane. It's hilarious. It's an abortion. If this is a sampling of what's to come, it's not an improvement. I...

    XS650 air box parts?

I'll call them air tubes for a lack of something else. Checked on some extra parts and pieces out in the barn and they are from the air box. Not sure why they would be removed, might speculate it's for more air, though some folks will drill extra holes in those plastic air boxes for more air...

    Head race bearings

I recall a post about notching the tapered bearing races, giving a drift tool purchase place for removing them- if necessary. Something I would do now as I hadn't on my old '83....... didn't know when I installed them, needed it when I went to take them out.

    rear suspension bolt, help.

Re: broken sprocket bolts... It's been a while but I acquired a Heritage Special rear tire complete that had two broken sprocket bolts. I started drilling into the centers of those remaining studs with a smaller diameter bit and they threaded out the other side, much to my delight.....so there's...

    rear suspension bolt, help.

They can be a bugger sometimes. If you remove the shock completely and then thread that bolt in to the bottom first I believe you'll see that it will fit.....of course the top has to be mounted first but you'll know the bottom will fit. Try loosening the top for some wiggle room to get that...

    1977 XS650

That crossover of the throttle cable can be done at the front of the frame and then run along the left side following the harness, same with the clutch cable going on the right side. First time I removed the top mount on my first xs it turned into a Chinese puzzle for a few moments when I went...

    Another (Cheap) Meter Damper Option

Another option is the rubber ring that sits between the clocks glass face and the top of the plastic bucket, if one has a supply of broken clocks taking up space.......seeing as how it's already a part designed for vibrations. So far, so good. Me? Cheap? More like resourceful.

    Speedometer and tachometer rebuild

Right on, right on. That tidbit seems to get lost in the oft times lengthy discourses. It's been a while but if I recall it was around......mebbe ....... 4/5 of uncrimping to where the bezel could be slipped out of the hold. I'll add that putting it all back together with a wee bit of...
