Today I switched the coils and plug wires to opposite sides. Also fiddled with this carb adjustment screw now REALIZING ( remembering thanks to you guys ) they were not the "stock" carbs for the 79s. Used the XS Carb Bible and started the settting process with 1.5 turns on the screw NOT 2 1/2...

Did that a year ago..........read it, re read it........grateful to 5Twins etal for all THIRTY FIVE pages of that incredible document!

Yep, well I still don't suspect the cheapo pods ( with all due respect) because if it were the pods, the problem would not just rear it's ugly head on one side, in this case the right side. I will take your advice and start switching out the coils, checking points etc. The bummer is, as I am...

At some point I posted this photo of the new carbs. the were identified as BS 38's I went form there and rebuilt them with Mikes parts!

Here is some additional information for ya 5T perhaps it will help you diagnose the problem: Wehn I bought the bike it had a 1" hole in the right piston. I put in two new pistons, rings, ground the valves. The carbs are new (used actually) from ebay. I rebuilt those as well, new jets...

After about 2 years my "build" is finished and Ii thought she was running really well, considering for the first time ever I rebuilt a motor! Just got my reg and plates so I took her for a spin. all seemed OK until about 5K RPM when the motor starts to "break up"......and she refuses to go to...
