Ok before lacing up the rims the hubs and rims were in dire need of refinishing. So off to the blast cabinet. After blasting the parts they were blown down and I gave them a good chemical wipe to make sure all the oils, grease and dirt was removed. The rims and hubs were finished with two...
Ok during the build it got kinda of old waiting for my buddy to weld something for me so I bought me a tig welder and started practicing. I bought an Everlast tig / plasma combo. This was considered one for price and the other the reviews I read on their units. WOW what a crappy company to deal...
Ok its been a long while since I have posted progress on my build. I have taken a lot of pics during the build. Just haven't had a lot of time to post anything. But here we go...... Got the gussets made and welded in.
Ok back on track with the build......finally! I have several pics to post and updates this weekend. Been busy busy busy. Just too lazy to post updates.
I have an XS1 front drum brake hub. I am wanting to lace an 18" rear rim to it. To get the fat front tire look. What size spokes can i go with or is this a custom made spoke job. Any help will do. I was told that since the front hub is just a bit smaller than the rear I could use rear 18"...
Here it is.....almost. Got gussets to template and cut, bungs to get welded in, engine mounts to be made and uuuuuhhhhh other stuff and the frame might be done. I ordered some snail cam chain tensioners from Voodoo Vintage lastnight. Man I enjoy dealing with them, and those things are cool...
Ok a long time studying and pondering over the backbone. I mocked it up a couple few different ways. Two seperate arches, and both looked like a big goofey looking fish jumping out of the water. :wtf: So after about two hours looking at it, it hit me  turn the backbone around. And...
Went with a less than conventional way to attach the top tail legs to the backbone. I thought it looked cool and different. I have some brass pieces turned down on the lathe to accent the the ends of the tube. Will be press fitting them in after mock up and frame finish.
Well its been awhile since I was able to update the build. Got the frame jig set up with the Voodoo Vintage rear tail locked into it. Now its time to start bending fitting the frame together.
GKL I actually picked up and sold an Indian leaf spring front end. I also picked up a 70's girder front end. Thinking about using the girder after I cut it down. Awesome frame!!!!!! Got my VV tail in and will be putting some pics up tomorrow. We should get together GKL I will PM you this...
Oh I might start out by mentioning that this is an inspired build. Not everything I am going to do is revolutionary to the engineering world of motorcycle building or design. I just want to build a bike that is cool, different, and not the same thing as everybody else. Some parts will be bought...
Actually...your kinda right. I ordered the rear tail section from Voodoo Vintage. And I would like to say they are a great business to work with. Bobber33, would love to see the bike you built that you are speaking of.
