    1975 bs38 choke question

My xs1 has a pipe connecting both intake manifolds; I suppose it has to be blanked off in order to make any meaningful vacuum comparison

    cam tensioner XS1

Hi All, My progress report, as promised : - Removed engine, removed head and cylinders; the cam chain guides were as new from previous rebuild, but the chain was not renewed by the previous owner who did the job. The chain did not eat a lot of the cylinder bridge: just surface marks. - I...

Thanks All, I will remove the engine and open it, fearing the domino effect... Will report progress....

    cam tensioner XS1

Thanks TwoMany, further investigation : the chain has a LOT of slack; I can push it with a finger until it touches the casing without noting any tension. I knew therewas a 10 deg retard on the timing. In the bottom of the engine, found a greasy sludge that could be mix of oil and aluminium. I...

it looks slightly worn: 0.44 mm deep on the groove made by the chain. See pictures Any idea of what glue could be used?

    cam tensioner XS1

Hi knowledgeable XS fans, I am servicing my xs1. Removed the plate below the engine where the oil filter is. Found a loose hard rubber plate. It comes from the cam chain tensioner: just below the pinion that is pressed against the chain. I cannot figure how it was attached to the aluminium block...

    xs1 1969 nearing completion

Thanks, Rubber discs are ok on both. Using the left one = no leak and slide drops very slowly as it should. The question of the groove remains : why this groove since it opens a small permanent passage between the diaphragm chamber and the starter circuit ??? On which machine was it used?

    Timing with a pamco.

remember that with a wasted spark system, the rpm read on a strobe is twice the actual one

    xs1 1969 nearing completion

HI I am looking at the diaphragm tightness, and changed one in XS2 carbs. I have 2 sets of carbs with the starter of the left carb feeding also the right carb (the right carb has no starter valve). When checking for diaphragm leaks, it seems that there is a leak from the starter circuit...

I also have these, they need a little polishing to match the bike : I will swap asap.

I have a few pairs, some very crappy. The ones on the bike might be for XS1B. How do you spot these are for later years?
