Haha I've heard stories of people seeing ufo's here but I haven't personal seen anything that would make me suspicious. 2m, I was actually down in your neck of the woods a few weeks ago (Kerrville & Medina Tx)

Hey y'all, just wanted to give you some updates to where I'm at on the build. I had the cylinders machined and bought new Pistons. I just about have the engine back together with new and cleaned up parts. The frame is getting repainted and I'm about to replace the front fork tubes. This forum...

I agree 2M, that's what I think I'm going to do. I found a shop that will bore it out for $50 a cylinder. Any suggestions on how big to bore it and where I might get some pistons/rings/pins?

Update: I got the jugs and pistons off and was thinking of doing one of two options. Option 1: bore out the jugs and get new pistons/rings. Or.. Option 2: buy used jugs and pistons that are in good condition and save a lil bit of money to use on other things on the bike. What do y'all think?

TwoManyXS1Bs- used your advice and punched out a link to the chain. Thanks! Now to get the pistons unseized and the jugs removed. Anyone know where I might be able to find some pistons and rings to my 72 xs650?

TwoManyXS1Bs- the thing is that I can't get to the master link due to the fact that the pistons are seized. So I may have to go with option 2 unless there's a better way. Just hope not to mess the bearings up by pounding on them.

Ok so I'm at the point to where I have the cam chain tensioner out and I'm trying to remove the cam. There isn't any slack in the cam chain to remove the cam and the bearings don't seem to want to budge at all to be removed. Any suggestions on what my next step should be?? Should I try to use a...

Update: ok guys, this is where I'm at on the rebuild. I pulled the engine and I'm in the process of taking off the head. I got the ignition point unit off and have the advance rod out. When disassembling the ignition advance unit, the manual says to use a punch and hammer to loosen the ring nut...
