I'd hazard a guess that it's probably because alcohol is cheaper than gas... adding alcohol is a bit like watering down beer, you get less gas and beer by weight. The tank I took off my bike is still half full of 30 odd year old four star lol. I wonder what it would run like.

nah your engineer friend is wrong... you could design and build something totally unique yourself, submit a report and have the vehicle inspected and approved for road use. 650skull probably posted the links I should have posted and quick scoping his links, particularly on engineering...

hate to answer a question directed at someone else, but a tight fit provides its own seal and looking at the numbers it's pretty tight... although a smear of hylomar or *branda*bond 1104 etc wouldn't hurt. EDIT .002" isn't a great deal but as an interference fit, remember the hole is .002...
