    Another piston ring question

Thanks 2M, I sent cruzinimage a message asking for recommendations on ring end gap since it was remarked elsewhere that end gap should be determined by ring manufacturer... Here's the reply: Thank you for your message. regarding clearance. I asked my supplier about clearance.the clearance is...

    Another piston ring question

found this thread whilst looking up end gap for my new pistons and rings. as it happens I've also bought from cruzinimage in Japan, but my experience has been very good. bought 78mm pistons and the rings are as you would expect and quite easy to identify which goes where, thinner top ring...

Octane Value for UK United Kingdom Riders

I'd hazard a guess that it's probably because alcohol is cheaper than gas... adding alcohol is a bit like watering down beer, you get less gas and beer by weight. The tank I took off my bike is still half full of 30 odd year old four star lol. I wonder what it would run like.

Crank Cases: paint inside Vs paintless and oil impregnation.

so you're saying oil impregnation would be a good thing? or that new paint may not stick due to oil impregnation? I wouldn't think it would be impregnated yet since it had paint on. I was thinking of oil impregnation being an issue later on once it's built and running. I actually washed right...

Crank Cases: paint inside Vs paintless and oil impregnation.

Yamaha put a thin coat of paint inside the cases, if it's removed should it be replaced? Looking for opinions and thoughts on this and whether oil impregnation is an issue or not if there's no paint inside.

    E-Advancer survey

One has been made and developed, but I wouldn't ever expect one of those to go into full production. There was a thread a while back where Pete went into some detail on the downside of the rephased e-advancer. Pete told me he sent one to I am Carbon who tested it out and it worked... but here's...

    Overdrive 5th gear

well that's the problem, one is either too big or too small. now your option is to enlarge hole to fit to your satisfaction with suitable clearance rather than have one that is too loose like #0869. I remember a comment made by Hugh of HHB where he said every one he's ever ordered has been too...

Can I remove the collectors or mufflers and still run with only pipes?

duplicate post, slow net, clicked "post" twice. :S turns out it wasn't a duplicate even though forum said it was... now none of the original post exists. /confused

Can I remove the collectors or mufflers and still run with only pipes?

removing functional exhaust mufflers/silencers will alter the performance.. removing exhaust, i.e all of it, can be detrimental to the engine in general but don't worry about that so much on removing silencers only. I'm no pro on this aspect, far from it lol I'm still learning myself, but I...

Digital Voltmeter, Clock and Temperature module

It looks the business and the write up sounds the business. should have known you're not the kinda guy to just shove it in there without having it all worked out. "Dallas Semiconductor DS18b20 temperature sensor, in a TO-92 case. Looks like a transistor, but it's really a network-addressable...

name this part! mystery part fount in transmission

that's hilarious. the only thing I found on the microfiche that looked anything like the top post was that button. but I dismissed it thinking no way... I thought maybe it's from inside the threaded part of the neutral switch so I looked on google images, didn't really see how the neutral switch...

Digital Voltmeter, Clock and Temperature module

isn't that how science tries to evaluate itself and how engineers test their shit? I didn't really shoot anything to bits... I only asked questions based on Angus' question and gave a reasonable answer to it in the first place. :bird:

name this part! mystery part fount in transmission

I've only stripped one xs engine, this doesn't make any sense to me at all tbh. but it does look kinda like and electrical sensor with plastic housing seeing that it's copper in rubber. only thing I can think of is that one on the top case behind the cylinders.... across from the oil dipstick...

Registering a Bobber in NSW, Australia

nah your engineer friend is wrong... you could design and build something totally unique yourself, submit a report and have the vehicle inspected and approved for road use. 650skull probably posted the links I should have posted and quick scoping his links, particularly on engineering...

Digital Voltmeter, Clock and Temperature module

hate to answer a question directed at someone else, but a tight fit provides its own seal and looking at the numbers it's pretty tight... although a smear of hylomar or *branda*bond 1104 etc wouldn't hurt. EDIT .002" isn't a great deal but as an interference fit, remember the hole is .002...
