I like the slotted look as well. I would feel safe riding those as well, but thats just me i guess.

I've seen it done quite a few times, and haven't heard of anyone's wheel blowing up yet. There is a lot of structural strength in the outer portion of the I-beams, so i would think it would be just fine.

No, i haven't really had time. We just had a bunch of coating work show up, so I've been trying to knock that out. I did some more work to my electronics tank, and that's about it.
