    A few years back my '81 650 started to leak in the center of the cylinder, than after a ride I noticed it was worse actually had a line of oil down the engine, so I could not ride it anymore it happenned to leak more all of a sudden so keep a eye on it.

    it also has standard pipes and all i did with the carbs was cleaned them did not change any setting.

    I used the standard air filters, champion spark plugs, I checked cam tension it is just about even with the bolt.

    I checked plugs the outside edge of plug is black the electrode is still white just replaced them a 1000 miles ago and bottom of plug the curved part is whiter in color on both plugs.

    it seems the noise gets it little loader when the engine has been running for awhile. at first i thought it might be piston slap,or something related to that, but coasting or when its cold you can not hear it.

    correct engine oil for 78 XS650E

    I use 20w 50w valvoline motorcycle oil 4.99 a quart I heard that too that car oil is bad for clutches, can make them slip.

    How do you check to see if it is running too lean? engine itself has close to 40000 miles on it. I have tried premium gas still the same. Thanks

    Does this leak sound like the clutch push rod seal ?

    Mine leaks too, only drips a few drips on the ground, and keeps the chained lightly oiled, makes the sprockets last longer, mine hardly has wore down since the light coat of oil on it. I have replaced it a few years back, but has not gotten any worse, so I figure let it be for now, keeps the...
