My 1978 standard is running a single fuel valve type petcock, aftermarket type from Mikes. The right side I simply blanked off with flat plate steel and a homemade gasket. Been working great for over a year now.

Also check to make sure both needles engage at the same level. A little air pressure check (mouth over air vent junction while blowing gently) while moving the floats up and down to determine actual needle seat height and proper seal is an easy way to check.

Have you checked the condition of the float needles and the dressed the seats?

Also, these floats are very height sensitive. That said, once they're set they stay. So measure them, set them, forget them.
