    AA Batteries for Battery?

I've got a PMA and pamco clone ignition, so there's only the bare need for a battery. Anyone here ever try replacing their womping big lead acid battery for some dry cell AA batteries in a pack of 8? I feel like it's a stupid question somehow, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

Spark at Points, not at Plugs

Well, finally got some garage time again, and worked through the suggestions based on parts I had on hand. Unplugging the points wire from the coils and tapping it against the cooling fins got some lovely nice sparks. I ran a ground wire directly from the body of the condenser to the negative...

Spark at Points, not at Plugs

I'm having some issues with a project bike I picked up. It's been pretty thoroughly lobotomized - it was chopped for an "evil gang" look for a small indie movie made near where I live - and it's got no key, kick only, and a switch under the seat for the blinkers. I can't get it to start but I'm...

Engine Swapping... No... The *OTHER* Way

I have this damn fool idea of swapping the engine from my '78 XS650 ... into the frame of a 2015 RE Continental GT. The GT handles like the business, but the engine is... well... "gutless" would be generous. It mounts up similar to the XS650 engine, so I feel like besides flipping the rear...

PMA / Pamco Wiring Sanity Check

Oooooooooohhhhhhh man. Found my problem. pamcopete, the coil checked out okay, so I knew that wasn't the problem. And if I hadn't burnt out the coil, I probably hadn't burnt out the PAMCO. So I started checking connections. Everything was good until I checked to see if the ground for the PAMCO...

PMA / Pamco Wiring Sanity Check

I feel silly for asking, but how do I access the core of the coil?

PMA / Pamco Wiring Sanity Check

I'm concerned (without having checked) that I burnt out the high output coil that came with the kit. What's the level of difficulty of using the stock coils with a PMA / PAMCO / kick only bike?

Aaaaand no spark. Check the plugs and coil next?

PMA / Pamco Wiring Sanity Check

Took me a minute to find it on the website but I'll try that, thanks. That's a handy way to cheat the circuit board.

PMA / Pamco Wiring Sanity Check

Tonight is a funny word. I tried with both PMA connected and PMA disconnected, and no luck. Battery charged to a snappy 13V (checked, and still 13V at red line on PAMCO). Anything else I should try electrically?

PMA / Pamco Wiring Sanity Check

Sounds good, pamcopete. I'll try that tonight.

PMA / Pamco Wiring Sanity Check

pamcopete, thanks for the detailed feedback. Yes. One on the PAMCO end, two on the mech advance end - learned that one last year. :) Yes. Midway between either extreme of adjustment. Full disclosure; records show I actually bought a kit from xs650direct (mike's xs in Canada). Yes. But...

PMA / Pamco Wiring Sanity Check

I was smart enough to buy my kit from some quality suppliers - I got the ignition from pamcopete, and the PMA conversion from Hugh's Handbuilt. No offense to any other suppliers, I just figure it's fair to say their stuff is good. Now, I think I've got it wired okay (see attached...
