    Moving the rear light

I haven't yet, but the bike is now hibernating so I have many gloomy months to reinforce the mounts before it'll get ridden again, sadly.

    Moving the rear light

I've always found the rear light on my '77 XS650 a little awkward looking. It just stuck out way too far. I tried an aftermarket replacement but didn't really feel that either, so at the suggestion of forum member articXS, I moved the original light back about 8 inches. I like it a lot more now.

Thanks Raymond. So if I got hold of a SE Special bracket I could fit my lamp to it. That sounds like an even better plan.

Raymond – I have a 77 XS650 with the same rear light, but mounted on the original long stalk Yamaha used back in the day. It's rather ungainly looking. I tried an aftermarket rear light, and although I like the more compact look, with the numberplate further back, it's a little Harley...

    Screws, rubber bits and nuts

Thanks guys. UK or mainland European suppliers would be a lot easier. What's the thread on the timing cover screws - M5?

    Screws, rubber bits and nuts

I need a few silly little bits for my '77 XS650 and wondered where anyone suggests I get them in the UK. If anyone has any bits they're happy to sell me, all the better - I'm not fussed about having brand new parts. 1 a domed nut to hold the speedo on. 2 a screw that holds on the timing cover...

Thanks. I have to take the irks off to do the boots and seals anyway. What effect do the Minton mods have

XS650 back on the road - almost

Thanks. It's in amazing nick for a 43-year-old bike. I can only guess but I'd say it did its 14k miles fairly early on in its life - first 10 years maybe - then sat at the back of someone's dry, warm garage for many years. I struck lucky getting it. Kinda makes up for the Bonneville it replaced...

Okay, thanks. So I need another 300mm US spec disc and a lefthand caliper - yes?

Wanted - Left hand front caliper and disc (UK)

Yeah, that shipping cost is prohibitive too. I can buy a brand new caliper over here for £100, so that just doesn't stack up. Sadly there aren't any on UK eBay at the moment.

    Are you selling the that?

So do you have to change the right side calliper too, or are the calipers the same?
