I have a 1979 yamaha xs750 special. Wire wheels would make all the difference in terms of looks. The mags are cool, but just not as easy on the eye as wires. Seems the front wheel might be pretty simple, and maybe a stock xs650 wire wheel could fit right up. But what about the rear wheel...

Well i think i exaggerated. With a passenger it bounces for a good bit extra, but not actually several seconds. Solo it is still too bouncy for sure. I'm thinking of going the modest route and only putting 100$ shocks on.

Well, that's actually probably contributing to things. I've heard some rattles in that area for sure, which have concerned me until i figured it out. But, even more entertaining, is that the other day when i mentioned the engine noise.. i figured that out too.... I had done a rear fender delete...

Fair point! Thanks for looking out. I got the engine running pretty nicely with a bunch of tasks just performed, and will be going through the standard tuning process quite soon, as early as this weekend. Previous owner had the carbs rebuilt and rejetted for K&N filters, sync'd of course...

Howdy! I'm a 165 lbs rider, and am about to replace the shocks on my 1979 yamaha xs750 special. I believe they're currently OEM, so quite a bit squishy. Looking forward to getting a tighter feel, especially for when hitting pot holes and not going for a bouncy carnival ride for several seconds...

I've now riden it for a couple hours around town since last night, up to maybe max 40MPH and mostly hovering around 25-30 MPH. Things are very very nice in the higher rev's. A big improvement since before putting on carb boots. So that helped. And i do think things are getting smoother overall...

Just solved it. I was getting lowered voltage right after the fuse prior to motor kill switch. It had be a bit squirrelly too, for example if I took a reading with kill switch off it would be like 7-8 V, but reading at same spot prior to kill switch but with that switch in Run, the voltage...

Nope. I had been repositioning the rear wiring, such as the tail light and rear blinkers. Also pushed around some fuse/wires under seat to a better spot. I took pictures to make sure things were returned to as is. I found a couple weak connections in wiring there and recreated them. After that...
