Wanted - Iso decent set of used carb boots for my 1980 g with bs38s

Yes, reinserting the port using an RTV or other flexible sealant seems to be a viable option. .

The carb holders tend to crack on the exterior surface long before they crack all the way through. That is, look for cracks on the inside before tossing them out. .

Keep in mind that there is some "overlap" between SAE and metric sizes. Off the top of my head, I think I use my 1 7/16 socket in place of the 36mm, and the 1 1/16 for the 27mm Those larger metric sockets can be pricey. I got my SAE 3/4 drive jumbo socket set from Harbor freight years ago for...

I agree with the honda guy, just take your time; I've never screwed up this installation. There is info on this procedure here in the tech section. Also, MikesXS has a tech section with a good installation article on this seal.

Parts for the XS650 are available from many sources. For individual parts try EBay; shipping might be cheaper. MikesXS has a lot of the parts we use; shipping can be more expensive. YamahaXS650.com often has great prices. Here is a seal kit on EBay: New Engine Oil Seal Seals Kit Set for Yamaha...

    Chicken Lips ! Scored !

Unless the thief is carrying some wire cutters in his back pocket, my stainless wire tether will likely frustrate his grab-n-go scheme to such a degree that he will give up yanking and take off. .

    First start after rebuild

From what your report, it seems to me that the pieces are leftovers from the old guide. BTW, you might see the fine sparkles for a number of oil changes; I wouldn't worry about them. .

    Removing chain guard question

The seller doesn't provide any info on the chain other than it is made of steel. Also has a lot of negative and concerning feedback comments in the past month, and the feedback wasn't responded to. I'd look elsewhere. .
