I was trying to adjust the timing chain tensioner for the first time and I let the push rod and spring fall into the crank case. From what I can see I might be able to drop the plate off pof the bottom of the engine and let it fall out and if that doesn't wrork it looks like I'll have to pull the jug. Anybody have any experience with this if so please give me a reply as to what worked best for you. Thanks in advance

Can't say I've ever put myself in that situation. There are many threads on this site about the CORRECT way to adjust the cam chain. I would urge that you read them and now maybe the ones about engine tear down and assembly also. Or take it to a shop

What??

How where you able to drop the rod and spring down the case. Is the engine up and running?? This is intresting:D

Anyhow, just drain the oil and pull the sump plate. There you should have access to your lost parts:thumbsup:

Good luck/BigBoreSwede

I drainded the oil but had no luck retriving the parts. When I took the cam tensioner housing off of the the push rod and spring fell into the crank case. The housing came out empty. I got distracted as I was taking the damn thing off. I caught a glimpse of the push rod but that is all. I'm going to try and get hold of a fiber optics camera and look for it. This was the first time I've tried to adjust the tensioner as I just got the bike, and was going by the Clymer manusl. Thnaks for the reply.

Sue Clymer, lol. I've never heard of this happening either but the things I see posted here amaze me. Just when I think I saw or heard it all, something like this pops up, lol.

My all time fav was the moron who bent the cable holder open on the carb to get the throttle cable out. It broke and he was mystified, lol.

Read the rest of that Clymer, you'll need the education to do that motor teardown that's in your future, lol.

Pen magnet...?
I used to to use this when dropping my cam chain down into the lower end on my dirtbike...
Just a thought.

Cant get it out through the spark plug hole...???

That is a joke by the way...rocker box off for you friend if you have no success with the telescopic magnet...good luck.

Man, I just removed mine on my XS2 engine yesterday to replace the gasket, I'm happy it didn't happen to me. Good luck and I hope you'll be able to find your parts without splitting the case...

Thanks for the helpful and usefull advice and encouragement. Let me clairify, I'm not new to this but I did mess up royally. An engine teardown isn't in the works that is for sure. If it went in it will come out the same hole. Good riding.

Hi.

You say you´ve drained the oil but there´s nothing about removing the sump plate. I´ll guess you have already done that.......or??

Anyhow, I can´t see any other option then that´the the rod/spring/washer is laying somewhere around the crank. Carefully try to turn the crank over a bit while having the sump plate removed.

Best of luck/BigBoreSwede

Swede. I was looking at the sump plate and was thinking that it.should be the next move. I tried a pen magnate and a small set of mechanical fingers and spent time in the manual. The wife and I left to take the grandson home to Md. And will be gone a week so the bike get's my full attention when we get back and I can follow up on your suggestion. Later

Oh yeah, yah GOTTA remove the sump plate. That should let you find your parts and fix the torn sump filter while you are in there.
