Why no bolt one hardtails?

pre unit triumphs were bolt on frames, before 1965 i think. to make a bolt on for the xs you would have to do a lot of welding anyway.. probably easier to just weld the hardtail on
 
these guys make one, but it is more like mod frame, then bolt on.

there are no bolt-on points. You'd have to create places to bolt to - and by then why not just weld on? Triumphs HAVE places already there to bolt a tail section/rear-frame onto. Plus, if you went to the trouble of creating places to bolt to, what would go there if is not a hardtail? it's not like you could bolt a stock tail section back on. XS650 simply isn't made that way. Triumph is.
 
Replace the shocks with chunks of iron = bolt on hard tail. Heck I am sure they sell em on flea bay too. Get the piss poor ride without all the hard work.

yeah but that just doesn't have the same look. You don't get that nice continuous line from steering head to rear axle. If someone were going to just stick on those struts, why not just put on short shocks instead? Those struts are the worst of both worlds. You get neither the nice look of a hardtail, nor the bit of suspension short shock would afford.

I dont see Teebs post any more, what happened to the guy? I will never forget him!!! lol he jumped down my shit on my very first post!! lol!! He would be proud of me to know how much I ve learned since then.

They are called stuts, and the fastest way to swing arm failure.

I owned one hardtail, back in the 70s, and my back still hurts
