Hey all,

I wanted to see if anyone else has had experience with MikeXS's Performance XS front brake rotor. (http://www.mikesxs.net/products-66.html#products at the top of the page)

I installed the rotor along with brand new Vesrah pads into the calipers and I used the spacers provided by MikesXS. However, the pad on the inside (closest to the wheel) is rubbing the rotor even with the spacers in place. Did anyone else have this happen on installation? Should I just let it rub until the pad wears down? Because that doesn't seem right.

Thanks in advance
Kent

I have been using it for about 600 miles now and there is just a little rub on the pads, but no real drag. I think this is normal for most disk brakes anyway.

nope, only two spacers and they are the same front or back.

xschris, are you noticing the rubbin on the inside pad (the one nearest the wheel)?

thanks for the replys

They both seem to be about the same. Its rubbing just enough to hear it, and not to cause any real drag.

Disc brake pad's are always in contact with the rotor. If they wern't, your lever would have to make up thediffwerence when brake applied. Also, there is a small amount of 'clearance', but inside the caliper, the piston seal bore,( where the seal sits) has a tilted side, so the seal sit's in the bore with the front edge slightly raised. This is what 'pulls' the piston back when you release the brake. And how the caliper itself is mounted to the fork allows for side to side movement. So, to answer your question, the pads do and should 'rub' against the rotor.

There's a screw under a boot on the caliper that should have grease. It equalizes the pressure of the two pads. If it was dry enough it might cause a dragging problem.

xjwmx, where is this boot you speak of?

I don't know what year you have, but on mine there's a rubber boot around a bolt on the right side of the caliper. I said screw before; I should have said bolt.

I believe xjwmx is referring to the bolt arrowed below. Proper maintenance of your brakes should cure this problem.
I have been running this rotor with a Fazer blue spot caliper & have had no problems

Depending on how you tighten the axle can line up the rotor and caliper or make it a bit off.
The axle should be tightened by the nut on the left first then the clamp bolts on the right.
