Hope you guys dont mind the XJ650 but its a 650 build.
So a customer came to me about a week ago and asked if i would be up to bob a 1982XJ650 and ofcorse I said YES . He wants to keep the rear springs and get a lil bigger tank and sit more so in the bike insted of on the bike. So i get to work on it and its going to be a pretty cool bike. Im going to move the rear sorings to more of a 45 degree angle insted of straight up and down and ill cut the seat section out and custom fab them a little lower so he will sit in his bike. I plan to do Ape hangers and forward controls if I can fit it in the budget. I will black out the rims, front forks, tank, rear fender and what not. I will also through on the Norton special leather belt around the trees . The exhaust will all be cut and wraped. Ill keep you guys updated:bike:

Those are nice little bikes. A lot more power and much smoother than the XS650. I think more people would chop them if they were chain drive and the motors looked better. (the XJ550 is a nice bike too and does have a chain drive as well as 6 gears)

I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

I agree 100% travis I started the bike up and it sounds like a crotch rocket lmao and the motor does not vibrate that much and it seems like a better ride. Once im done with it, it should look like a bad ass bobber. The shaft driven makes it odd to work around but I already have it all figured out. I know its hard to see what it can be but have faith :wink2:. Also I was unaware of the 550 being chain driven I will have to seek one out and do one of those as well.

I sold one of my XJ650s last year, and the last one is going this weekend. They are very nice bikes, but much harder to source parts for than the XS650s.

Well, it looks more chopped/bobbed than when you started! What are your plans for a seat and seat rails?

Is that a good thing or a bad thing travis lol . I going to run the seat rails lower so you sit lower in the bike. Im going to try and run a ridgid style seat or just a metal seat pan not sure yet then on to blacking everything out.

XJ's are great bikes. I just sold mine. Great to ride but the issue I had with it was the same as everybody else, the motor just doesn't look right or sound right in a bobber.

I like the fact, you can give new life to an old bike:thumbsup:

I bet the FJ600 engine would bring new life to an old frame....:)

weird, I parked next to one very similar this morning at the grocery store. It was an all black XJ650 that had a sprung solo seat and the frame rails cut behind it. From far away I thought it was an XS.
