Emissions ?

question:
If the jetting were spot on and you removed the airbox covers, would it run like crap ? Basically I know nothing about carbs, but today I removed both airbox covers and took it for a ride and it rode just as good or better. It pulled cleanly all the way to redline. Wouldn't that mean the air/fuel mixture got better with more air ? I know that to really figure it out I have to remove the carbs, and I'm going to, but for right now I just want to pass emissions. My truck blew a headgasket today, and I'd like to ride my bike until it's fixed

well that explains the excess unburnt gas...
Thanks Bloodhound.
PS- took my dog to the park last night and we ran into a Bloodhound/Basset hound puppy. Looked just like a bloodhound but shorter !

well I still haven't passed emissions, but there is hope. It looks like after 7/1/2010 we will no longer be required to get motorcycles emissions tested. Pinal County (tucson) has already stopped requiring it. Here's a link to the story:

Which is great and all but riding season is here now, and by July it'll be too hot to ride (over 110) so hypothetically someone in my position could rent a PO box in another county, like maybe Pinal, where emissions aren't required. Maybe in a place like Bapchule, AZ that's pretty close to Phoenix. Where I hear PO boxes are around $12.00/6 months. Just sayin'... :D

Tucson AZ is in Pima County, not Pinal county. I believe we still do cycle emissions too. I'll find out when I go for a sniff test on my '80 Special.

Emission testing for a 30 year old motorcycle?

Sheesh... we don't even have that... but we have it for everything else.

We do have a loud pipe law... and safety inspection if you are pulled over
because they think you are missing necessary equipment.

No can do on inspection station shopping. It's all computer controlled/monitored at state built locations.

That sucks. That's what I did whenever I had my first truck 79 f150 before it became 25 yo. Just checked with some guys that I knew couldn't pass emissions either. Found out that some places would use other ppls emissions to pass your vehicle.

Just wait for the "American Clean Air and Security Act"............ you'll have more to worry about that inspecting an old motorcycle.......for sure....I say no more....

yeah but sheriff joe would have him on the chain gang in tent city if he caught him cheating on the test:doh:

Lean the mix screws.......pass the test.........pull down the road and crank them back out where they belong.....:)....Hope Al Gore isn't listening.........:yikes:
